"Is she as cold as me?" she asked, wanting to know why I found it funny.

I shook my head against her, lowering myself a little, finding the open slit that was so much bigger now, going almost all the way to her hip. I pushed it away, pressing my cheek to her warm thigh and grasping it.

"You're so warm," I murmured before I ran my lips up along her thigh, pushing up her skirt.

"Jared, w-we were talking," she insisted, but I couldn't think about my future marriage when Alison was right there for the taking. I pressed my lips to her pussy, hearing the sweet sigh that left her lips and tasting the hint of myself on her. My mouth salivated, and I licked my lips, ready to dive in and fuck her with my tongue, relishing the fact that only I had succeeded in making her enjoy having her pussy licked. I moved closer when something crashed against the floor, making both Alison and me jump. I turned my head, while Alison let out a shocked scream as she tried to fix her skirt. Right by the table stood Vince with a dark smile on his lips. He reached for my wine glass while the second one lay on the ground, smashed to pieces, and wine covering the floor. He drank what was left in my glass before casually shrugging.

"Apologies. Did I interrupt something?"

Chapter 33

-Jared-

I observed Vince as he sat beside me, savoring the meal I had ordered to be prepared for Alison and me. His attention wasn’t directed at me but rather on the food, as he occupied the seat where Alison had sat earlier. I had sent her back to our room since the expression on Vince’s face hinted that it was better to put an end to the games now. I knew I couldn’t escape the impending scolding. He always appeared composed, but a storm could brew beneath his calm exterior, hidden from view. I had witnessed him truly angry only a few times, one of which was when I had unintentionally gotten someone pregnant. Thus, I sat there, bracing myself for whatever he might say.

However, seconds stretched into minutes, and he continued to relish the food, deliberately ignoring my gaze. Eventually, I couldn’t bear the silence any longer.

“Out with it,” I insisted.

Vince turned to me, casually reaching for his wine glass and taking a sip. “What?” he asked.

“How long were you standing there?” I inquired, referring to the moment he had caught me in the compromising position with Alison.

“Just long enough,” he replied.

“For what?”

“I thought she was the one who was supposed to worship you on her knees,” he remarked, his words laced with a hint of sarcasm.

“I was playing a role tonight. It’s all part of the plan. You weren’t here from the beginning, so you don’t understand the context,” I defended.

“Then provide me with the context, because what I heard was you admitting that you wanted love from the woman who tormented you for years.”

“I never said I wanted it. I said I didn’t understand it,” I retorted.

“And you’re right about that. People like you and me are taught that love hurts, and it’s supposed to hurt. That’s why we never truly find the right chemistry to experience love. Our love is different.”

“Different?”

“It’s no longer love. It’s called obsession, and it kills. That’s why we avoid forming those deep connections with anyone. We don’t allow our obsessions to take over because, the moment we do, we’ll lose control of ourselves,” he explained.

“You think I’m going to go on a killing spree?”

“I think that at some point, you’d rather kill Alison than let another man touch her,” he observed.

“That’s insane!”

“That’s who we are! That’s why we don’t form such connections with anyone. That’s why we don’t allow our obsessions to consume us, because the moment we do, we lose control,” he reiterated. “Hence, this deal with the North is a better option. You should be happy that you’ll at least have a wife and won’t spend your days alone. You might even start a family with Astrid. That’s something you could never do with Alison.”

“Stop! I don’t want a family with her. That’s disgusting! The only reason I would even consider getting her pregnant would be because she’d find it just as repulsive to have a child with me,” I snarled.

“Yes, she did look repulsed by you a moment ago,” he replied sarcastically.

“She’s getting used to me. Slowly falling for me. She desires me. I’m just working on getting her to admit it,” I declared.

“Oh, she desires you, but I think she has desired you for far longer than you ever realized,” he growled softly.

“What?” I looked perplexed.
