“I’ve lost my appetite,” she replied through gritted teeth.
“Then I suppose you’ll have to wait until dinner.”
I turned around, giving her a playful slap on the ass as I walked by.
“Wait, you’re leaving me tied up?”
“Is that a surprise?” I chuckled as I walked to the door of my bedroom and slipped out, feeling a sense of satisfaction I hadn’t experienced since we arrived. Finally, we were back to our usual push and pull, and I couldn’t wait to see how I might break Alison next. Little by little, she would come to realize there was nowhere else to turn but to me.
“You’re unusually quiet,” Vince pointed out as we sat at the dinner table. He had convinced me to dine with him instead of spending my time tormenting Alison.
“We never talked much when we ate together.”
“That changed after you started considering this place your home,” he countered. I took a sip of the alcohol in my glass, pondering once again what might happen when I was done with Alison. “I even thought that having your pet here would lift your spirits.”
“I’m quite uplifted,” I assured him. I had managed to pierce through Alison’s peculiar demeanor and reignite her hatred. I felt rather content, but it had been so long since I spent significant time here that I was still adjusting to being back.
“Yes, your joyful response truly convinces me,” Vince quipped. “Are you having trouble taming her?”
I chuckled, shaking my head. “No, she’s under control. It’s just been a while since we’ve done this.”
“That’s right. But you’re back now.”
“We both knew I would leave the nest eventually. I had other plans for the future,” I reminded him.
“But we all return home one day,” he countered.
“You’re very focused on my return. Did you miss me that much?” I joked.
“I can’t deny the place has been quiet without you. But I was hoping that once your revenge plans were over, you would come back.”
I turned my glass around, watching the golden liquid swirl as I thought about his words. “I actually never thought that far ahead.”
“The clock is ticking down. It’s all over soon. Before you know it, those three weeks will be over, your precious Alison will have learned her lesson once and for all, and you will be free.”
“Why did you refer to her like that?” I asked, turning to him.
Vince looked confused at me.
“Like what?”
“Precious? She isn’t precious to me. I despise her.”
“It was just a word,” he pointed out. “I meant it mockingly.”
I looked away, focusing on my glass again, but I could feel Vince’s sharp eyes on me, and I slowly turned my head to him, seeing the way he was studying me.
“What?” I asked.
“Just a very powerful reaction to a simple word.”
“Because there is nothing precious about her. She is a witch, born from a deep, dark hole in hell,” I snapped.
“If you hate her so much, why not simply destroy her life right away, in the same way you did with her old friends?” he questioned.
“It wouldn’t be the same. She needs to properly pay,” I stated, pressing a finger into the table to emphasize my point.
“Wouldn’t she if you took everything dear away from her?”
