“Can I kiss you?”

“Yes,” she breathes.

I slide my hands up the sides of her neck into her hair as I lean in and press my lips to hers, I kiss her softly with no tongue. I want this to be at a pace that doesn’t make her uncomfortable. Willow slides her tongue into my mouth, sliding hers against mine, while she moans. Fuck. She runs her fingers into my hair, digging her nails into my scalp, causing tingles to break out at the base of my spine.

I pull back, breaking our kiss, as my beautiful wife looks dazed, her lips, pink and swollen. She climbs onto my lap, straddling me, and wraps her arms around my neck while pressing her face into my chest. I take a deep breath. Yes, I want to fuck my wife, but this right here is enough. She is enough.

Six Months Later…

It’s been nice to not have the threat of enemies wanting to rape and kill us. It’s been peaceful, but I know that won’t always be the case. There will always be another threat right around the corner. When Max asked me to train with Mia at first, I wasn’t sure about it. After what happened with Joey, I knew it wasn’t a choice. I need to be able to protect myself and our kids when my husband isn’t around. I don’t blame myself for being raped, but I do know if I had been more like Mia, I might have been able to fight him off. I can’t go back in time. However, I’ll make damn sure to be able to protect myself in the future. Something happened to me while I went through that experience. I no longer fight with my husband about his work. He kills people, but they aren’t good people. I prefer to think of it as protecting women and children. I know his career didn’t start that way, but that’s the man he is today. He’s a good man—the ultimate protector.

EPILOGUE TWO: MIA AND TREVOR

One Year Later…

If anyone had told me a year ago that I’d be the mother of two beautiful girls, I would’ve called them a liar. I never planned to have children but, of course, Trevor changed all of that. Natalia was born healthy and beautiful but big. She was a whopping ten pounds. For my tiny frame, she was very big. They tried to take her naturally, but unfortunately, a c-section was necessary when she got stuck in the birth canal. The entire experience scared the hell out of my husband, and he now says he doesn’t want children. Maybe I’ll tell him I’m on birth control when I’m not. It’d serve him right.

Three months ago, we officially adopted Savannah, our Savvie. Technically, Trevor and I are her adoptive parents, but we all share her. She stays for one week with us, one week with Max and Willow, and one week with Hunter and Jade. We keep it going like that, and it seems to work well for everybody, especially her. She gets something different from each household. I have already begun teaching her how to defend herself. We are home-schooling her now since she has never had an education, hoping she’ll start high school next year. She’s a gifted writer and always has her nose in a book. Savannah has started to notice cute boys. With three fathers like the ones she has, I wish her all the luck in the world. I’m not sure she’ll ever get a chance to date without sneaking around. I’ve tried to explain to Trevor that the harder they hold onto her, the more she’ll rebel. He doesn’t listen, none of them do. No boy is possibly good enough to even look at their sweet Savvie.

Life is good. We constantly watch around us, knowing we have constant targets on our backs. We will come under attack again, but each of us will be prepared when that time comes. Any woman in our circle will be able to defend herself. Even Willow carries a knife at all times, now. I once said, an unprepared assassin is a dead assassin. What is that saying? Fail to plan, plan to fail.

I look around my living room, it’s an absolute mess. Savvie has a stack of books, paper, and pens spread out over the coffee table. Natalia’s toys are on the floor. Trevor sits with her playing with little cars, making noises. She has just started giggling, and nobody brings out the laughter in her more than her daddy. I once questioned whether we could do this parenting thing. Now I know without a doubt that we can. Some days my life is utter chaos. Even on the worst day, I wouldn’t change my choices for anything. Some of my family is biological, and some of it is found. Regardless, this is my family. I live for them. Without a single hesitation, I would die for them.
