“How are you feeling?” Emmy asked.
“Ready,” I said. “I’m so ready.”
“Should I tell them you’re ready to make your way down the aisle?”
I nodded. “I am.”
As the music began to play, signaling the start of the ceremony, my eyes scanned the gathered guests, each face filled with warmth and love. My gaze locked with Cam’s, and in that moment, everything else faded into the background. He stood at the end of the aisle, a vision of handsome anticipation, his eyes brimming with adoration. I almost needed to pinch myself. I couldn’t believe he was my husband. He was the man I was going to wake up to every morning.
With each step I took down the aisle, a rush of emotions surged within me. I was so ready to start life with him. As I reached Cam’s side, I felt a wave of calm wash over me. Our eyes locked as he took my hands in his.
“Cam,” I began, my voice quivering with emotion. “From the moment I met you, my world shifted. You have been a part of my life for as long as I can remember. You saw me through some of my darkest days. You became my anchor, my guiding light, and my safe haven.”
I saw the raw emotion on his face. My heart felt so full.
“I promise to stand by your side through all of life’s ups and downs,” I continued, my voice steadying as I regained my composure. “I promise to support you in your dreams and aspirations, and to celebrate your triumphs as if they were my own. I promise to be your partner in crime, your confidante, and your biggest cheerleader.”
There were some chuckles from the crowd of people sitting in the white chairs in perfect rows.
A soft smile played at the corners of his lips, and I could see the love shining in his eyes. It gave me the strength to continue, to pour my heart out in front of our loved ones.
“I promise to cherish and nurture our love, to always prioritize our connection even in the midst of chaos. To listen, to understand, and to never stop learning about who you are, as we grow individually and as a couple.”
“Cameron, you can say your vows,” the officiant said.
“Izzy, Isabella, standing here today, in front of our loved ones, I feel an overwhelming sense of gratitude and joy. I have loved you for as long as I can remember. Sorry, Ramsey.”
More chuckles.
“I still remember the first time our eyes met, and the way my heart skipped a beat. In that instant, I knew that there was something extraordinary about you, something that would forever touch my soul. And now, as I stand here, ready to pledge my love and commitment to you, I feel incredibly blessed to call you my wife. Today, I promise to love you unconditionally. I promise to support you through every triumph and every challenge that life presents us. Your dreams are my dreams. I’m ready to walk through anything with you. I promise to listen to you with an open heart, to understand you in times of joy and in times of sorrow. I promise to cherish you every day, to remind you of your worth and beauty. I will be your constant source of love and encouragement, uplifting you and helping you become the best version of yourself. Your happiness will always be my priority, and I promise to do everything in my power to make you smile, even on the darkest of days.”
I couldn’t stop the tears as he spoke. My heart was so full.
“I love you, now and always, and I am forever grateful that you have chosen me to be your husband.”
It was only another couple of minutes before the officiant pronounced us husband and wife. There was an eruption of applause, and cheers filled the air as we kissed for the first time as husband and wife. Lily rushed to give us a hug while Ramsey stood back and stared proudly at us.
“Congratulations,” he said.
“Thank you.” Cam nodded at him.
The reception continued at a charming seaside venue, where twinkling lights danced in the fading sunlight. The Newport, Rhode Island resort was perfect for kicking off our lives together. I was truly the happiest I had ever been.
As the night drew to a close, Cam and I stole a moment to ourselves, standing hand in hand beneath a canopy of stars. We gazed out at the vast ocean before us, its waves crashing against the shore, creating the prettiest backdrop I could have imagined.
“Happy?” Cam asked.
“The happiest,” I told him.
“Do you think we have to go back in there or can we sneak off to our room?” he teased.
“I don’t know.” I laughed. “I think we’re supposed to cut a cake or something like that.”
“Did you bring your makeup bag?” he asked.
I was a little confused. “It’s in the room, why?”
“Because I’m really looking forward to messing up your makeup,” he said. “There’s a closet we passed on the way out here, I’d like to investigate it.”
“You want to investigate a closet?” I grinned.
“Yes,” he said and dragged me back into the side entrance. He dragged me into the closet that was stuffed with extra chairs and cleaning equipment. He pulled me into his arms and kissed me. My hands went to his hair, not caring if I messed it up and people noticed. We were newlyweds. Of course, we were going to sneak away for a little sexy time.
I smiled, resting my head on Cam’s shoulder, feeling an overwhelming sense of gratitude for the love we had found. We were embarking on a new adventure, hand in hand, ready to face the challenges and joys that awaited us. In that small, intimate wedding in Newport, Rhode Island, our hearts had become forever entwined, and I knew deep in my soul that our love would continue to grow, flourish, and inspire us for all the days to come.
