“No,” I shake my head, “I didn’t have sex with anyone last night.”

“Sal left you with blue bean?”

“With what?” I emphatically question.

“He got you all hot and ready with the paddle and left you hanging?”

“Not exactly,” embarrassment creeps over me as I explain in minimal detail how Sal fingered me through more paddling and then tucked me in bed.

“You know you can’t get pregnant from that right?” Her tone is jokingly condescending.

“No shit,” I shove some bacon in my mouth and wash it down with the coffee.

“Then what did you need a Plan B for?”

“This morning,” I exhale before telling her what transpired with Sal.

“Holy fuck, Granddaddy,” Lyla fans herself from the few details she managed to pull from me.

Still fanning herself, she grabs my buzzing phone from the table with her free hand.

I know you’re sorry

We can get past this

“He knows?” She shoves the phone at me, “Did he catch the two of you?”

“Yes,” her face drops. “I mean no.”

“Which is it?” Her voice is beyond excitable.

“He didn’t catch us,” for a change she doesn’t interrupt when I pause for a moment, “But I think he watched Sal kiss me before leaving. So, he obviously knows something is going on.”

“Give me back the phone,” she begins typing.

I need a little time Angelo

Please be patient with me

We both watch as the currently typing dots linger on and off the screen, as though Angelo is writing back an extensive reply and deleting it over and over again. The single short message that comes through is a slight surprise.

Of course

“I can’t move forward with both of them.”

“Of course you can,” Lyla winks at me.

“Sal made it very clear I need to choose,” I stand from the table and walk my dishes to the sink, “And you of all people know this isn’t me.”

“I know, babe,” she places her dishes on the counter and gives me a consoling hug, “but can we just imagine for a moment how hot a threesome with Granddaddy and the romantic hottie would be?”

ChapterThirty-One

ELLIE

For three days, I have managed to avoid Angelo. His texts repeatedly answered with short replies from me as I continuously send various versions of how busy I am to blow him off. When I’m not at work watching the kids, I’m hiding out at Lyla’s. Basically, ensuring that I am anywhere he is not, to avoid a conversation I don’t want to have.

I feel horrible about my avoidance, but I don’t know what it is that I want to say to him yet.
