“Grab your plate,” Angelo jokingly rolls his eyes at me, “I have the movie all set up in the other room.

We both sit on the floor and eat our late dinner at the coffee table while the movie plays, occasional and easy conversation passing between us. About the time Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds are landing in Sitka, Alaska, we make our way from the floor to the couch.

Snuggling up against him, there is an unexplainable comfort and I let out a relaxing sigh as I rest my head against his shoulder. “Could you be any more perfect?”

“What?” He moves so suddenly my head falls off his shoulder.

“Most guys I’ve met would’ve dragged me out for a night to cheer me up. Some would’ve thought that their penis was the magical cure for a rough day.”

“Good old Vitamin D,” he exaggerates an obnoxious wink.

“Exactly,” my hands flail in the air and I chuckle.

“I don’t want you to ever feel like you have to pretend with me. We all have ups and downs. The person in your life should balance that out for you.”

“The person in your life?” I question.

“I told you, beautiful, you’re mine,” he pulls me onto his lap and against his chest and I can almost hear him smile. “You’ll realize it soon enough.”

As much as that word freaked me out a little this morning, it doesn’t tonight. It doesn’t sound misogynistic or possessive. Instead, it just makes me feel wanted.

Maybe I’m stretching and trying to compensate for the fact that Sal made it pretty clear he didn’t want me.

Angelo is an amazing guy, probably one of the sweetest I’ve ever dated.

Definitely the sweetest.

Hands down the most romantic.

My legs sprawled across his lap and head resting against his chest, he wraps his arms around me. The two of us snuggled close as we resume watching the movie.

“I’m not perfect, Ellie,” he whispers slowly, “Maybe it’s just that I’m perfect for you.”

Maybe he is right…

Resting against him, I close my eyes for a moment as I absorb his words. When I open them again, I realize that I’m lying on the couch, nearly on top of a sleeping Angelo. The light from the frozen DVD title screen is the only thin illuminating the room. For a moment, I contemplate getting up and heading to my bed, but I like both the feeling and idea of sleeping with him. Finding the remote, I click off the TV and nuzzle back against Angelo.

“Come here, beautiful,” his strong arms wrap around me as he pulls me tight against him, “Go back to sleep.”

I have no desire to argue with him and I do as he requests.

Angelo nearly lives with me for the next few days. The two of us go to our respective jobs for the family during the day. Our evenings are spent enjoying each other’s company and our nights are spent wrapped in each other’s arms.

Perfect.

The time spent with him can only be described as perfect.

ChapterSixteen

ANGELO

“Good morning, beautiful,” I whisper as I pepper soft, wet kisses down Ellie’s neck while she sleeps in my arms. Brushing her hair out of the way, my lips continue toward her ear. “Ellie…time to wake up.”

When she stirs, I can feel her groggy groan vibrate through her neck against my lips.

“Beautiful,” my hand slides under her shirt and softly rubs along her side and my lips continue traveling her neck to the sweet sounds she makes as she slowly wakes up.

“What are you doing, Angelo?” Her voice slow and tired.
