‘’Mmm, morning beautiful’’ I smiled greeting in the day in my usual favorite way, as I reached out with my eyes lazily closed still to snuggle my baby close for a morning kiss. I reached a little further, then a little more, before turning over and reaching out for her again.
I sat up now and opened my eyes, groggily scanning around the room for Taylor… ‘’tut, shit’’ I muttered, instantly flying out of bed and into the shower when noticing the time on my digital wall clock.
I was expected early at headquarters that day, to head one of five scheduled assessment meetings we were still conducting in light of all that had happened. And would look a fool for being tardy, especially after sending out last minute reminder memos for everyone to be on time.
I don’t think I ever showered so fast, but if I kept my pace up, I hopefully – dependent on that day's traffic- should make it to the office on time. Fully dressed almost, with only now my suit jacket to put on, I picked up my cell phone real quick to check for messages and call Taylor to see where she was.
‘’Oh really??’’ I muttered, throwing my hands up irritably as I of course forgot to charge my cell phone last night, and now had zero battery left. That obviously was the reason my alarm didn’t wake me on time, but why hadn’t Taylor? Although come to think of it, I’m pretty certain she mentioned something yesterday about wanting to get an early start in her newly promoted role, which above everything I truly admired her work ethic, and enjoyed very much the dedication and input she placed in myself and my company.
There secretly was something enticingly seductive about having my love work alongside me, kind of like forbidden fruit where for the first half of the day I wasn’t allowed to touch or indulge her, for the sake of formal upkeep at work. But in the evenings when we returned home, a little like last night for example, well…there was no limit to the naughty fun we shared behind closed doors.
Last night to say the least was fucking epic!
Which reminded me, I needed to dry clean and return my cop buddy Kyle's clothing back to him. Right now though I needed to get going! Time wasn’t on my side as I glanced down at my watch and quickly swung my suit jacket on. I unfortunately didn’t have time even to make myself a morning coffee, as I grabbed my charger from out the drawer and exited the suite at top speed!
Traffic luckily wasn’t all that bad that morning, and I arrived to Tazer headquarters with literal minutes to spare ahead of that day's first meeting.
‘’Morning Leanne’’ I smiled across at the cute receptionist, as I hurried my way towards the buildings main elevators.
‘’Morning Mr. Avery’’ she said with a somewhat nervous smile, and I was used to that demure behavior from women sometimes who were no doubt a little shy around me.
The elevator finally arrived and I stepped inside. And even though I knew I was now running maybe a minute or two late, politely held the doors open still for a few staff running to catch it. The second they saw me their conversation stopped, and it was a quiet ‘’Good Morning Mr. Avery’’ where for 5 floors up there was nothing but radio silence inside the elevator.
I guess news spread fast, and with the recent employee evaluation assessment meetings I was carrying out, along with the newly drawn up company contracts I was having everyone in the building sign, I guess I’d gone from good boss to bad boss overnight.
Came with the territory I guess, and while it didn’t exactly comfort me knowing the people that worked for me all hated me now, or at best were highly irritated with me, I at least had my baby at the end of the day to come home to and comfort me when I needed it.
‘’Good morning everyone, my apologies for keeping you all waiting’’ I said striding confidently into Meeting room 1 with my head high and a big morning smile, noticing with a quick shift of my eyes towards the clock on the wall, that I in the end was only four minutes late…before noticing also that I was being met with the same arctic silence that instantly hushed the room when I entered, with every face turned towards me looking at me like I was the elephant in the room…why was everyone acting so strange today?
I took my jacket off and placed it across my chair at the head of the table, determined to continue on as normal, despite whatever tedious office gossip was going around about me.

‘’…in his place is Mr. Dirk Underwood. How nice of you to join us Dirk’’ I said gesturing my hand to him, which sent a light simmer of laughter around the room due to the timing of him bursting all of a sudden through the door.
I however wasn’t laughing, as I stood looking sternly at my newly appointed CEO, who’d interrupted a meeting he was supposed to be attending, without so much as even knocking.
‘’Where were you Dirk? You’re supposed to be sitting this meeting with me’’ actually, so was Taylor…

‘’It’ll have to wait Dirk, the meetings already begun, and I’d appreciate your presence now while it continues’’
‘’I’d rather it didn’t Sir’’ he said urgently.
With an uncomfortable clearing of my throat I smiled politely round the room and said ‘’sorry about this. Please excuse me a moment ladies and gentlemen’’ and exited out quietly to go speak with Dirk.
‘’Okay Dirk, what’s so important that you A, couldn’t attend the meeting on time, and B, pulled me out of it now that I’ve started’’ I said with a disapproved raised brow.
‘’I really am so sorry sir’’ he said looking nervously wide-eyed at me ‘’I…I tried my best, really I did to have it taken down, but was unable to raise a dispute in time with TMZ who posted the article exclusively on their account, managing somehow to bypass our editorial AI and go instantly live on the app, before taking off and going viral in a matter of mere minutes.
