He said nothing.

It hurt me fighting with him like this, we were better people than that. But words sometimes can prove more powerful than man made artillery, and we’d definitely exchanged a few that day. I guess after Jessica I never really cared about anything or anyone as much as I did Tazer. I put my everything into this company, and it made me the successful businessman I am today. Then she came along, and for the first time I’ve been able to step away from that role and begin to enjoy the real things in life again, which I realize all the money in the world was no match for that kind of happiness…I would give it all up for her.

I knew what I had to do now…

‘’Skipp’’ I said calmly levelling my eyes with his ‘’it’s with deep regret that I announce your immediate dismissal from this company. You’ll of course be given a generous severance check, as well as flexibility to either sell, or have me buy out your share. Either way, this is your last day here at Tazer. You have one hour to vacate the premises, or I’ll have security escort you out.’’

CHAPTER 45

TAYLOR POV:

‘’Taylor? Baby?’’ Hudson called coming through the apartment door later that same evening.

‘’In here’’ I called out, instantly jumping up from the couch where I’d been part lazing, part worrying over what words I knew were being exchanged that day between Hudson and his so-called best friend Skipp Bennett, as I ran to the door to go greet him.

‘’Oh sweetheart I missed you’’ he said, instantly scooping me up in his arms as I neared him, and holding me tight giving me a big long kiss.

‘’How did it go?’’ I asked concerned as Hudson set me down again, and followed him into the kitchen watching him pour himself an instant glass of double-shot whiskey.

‘’You were right. He admitted to going over my head and negotiating a merger deal with Hierarchy’’ he said gulping the whiskey down and loosening his tie with a refreshed expression, as if that was exactly what he needed.

‘’I’m so sorry Hudson’’ I said looking apologetic at him ‘’part of me was actually kind of hoping I did make a mistake, and that it wasn’t true’’ I told him honestly ‘’so…what happens now?’’

‘’I had to let him go’’

‘’Oh my god’’ I said, a genuine look of shock widening my eyes as I stood staring at him.

‘’Yep’’ he sighed pouring himself another glass ‘’and it wasn’t at all easy let me tell you’’ he said taking my hand as we both went and sat on the couch together ‘’…in fact, it was probably one of the hardest things I’ve ever had to do. But, it was the right decision to make’’ he nodded.

‘’I…I can’t help but feel like this is all my fault’’ I said, feeling genuinely bad for being in the end the rift that broke up a friendship.

‘’None of this is your fault baby’’ he said taking my hand and kissing it with assurance ‘’and I’m glad you told me when you did before things started getting really messy’’

‘’I guess’’ I nodded, but I still felt bad about it.

‘’Don’t do that beautiful’’ Hudson said softly, his kind eyes studying my face as he placed his glass down on the table, and held both my hands in his ‘’no blame falls on you Taylor, none at all. It’s just extremely disheartening is all to find out after all these years, the kind of snake my so-called best friend really is ‘’ he sighed ‘’and hey, I’m sorry I was a little short earlier when you told me’’ he said softly running his fingers down the side of my cheek ‘’I guess information like that came rather hard to digest, as did the information later found when looking around Skipp’s vacated office -that being the already drawn up contract to an unauthorized merger between ourselves and Hierarchy. And on it…my forged fucking signature ready to trade off to the enemy and make good on his end. Bastard!’’

‘’My god, really?? What kind of monster does that?!’’ I fumed, not feeling the least bit fucking bad now, as it was becoming apparent all this had been in the making for quite a while ‘’I hope you prosecute him Hudson because that is not okay’’

‘’There are better ways of dealing with someone like Skipp. And trust me, his time is coming’’ he said gulping down the rest of his whiskey.

‘’But it just doesn’t make sense, I mean, why would he even do something like this? Betray you the way he has?’’

‘’Because of you’’ Hudson said looking directly at me.

‘’Because of me?’’ I repeated stunned, and sat listening in angered disbelief as Hudson proceeded to tell me the rather harsh words used by Skipp when referencing me in his office.

Oddly enough by the end of it, I didn’t feel surprised.

I did however feel empowered now to tell Hudson what I probably should have told him last night…

‘’This all goes back further than me’’ I said looking seriously at him.

‘’What do you mean?’’ he asked.

‘’I um…I have something to tell you Hudson, and I’m sorry I didn’t tell you right away’’ I said looking worriedly at him ‘’but I hope when I tell you now, you’ll understand why’’

‘’What is it baby?’’ he asked, his eyes looking so concerned right now which only made me feel worse.
