‘’Excellent! You won’t regret it, it’ll be the party of the century’’ he beamed topping up our glasses and clinking his against mine.

‘’Just don’t invite too many people, I don’t want to overwhelm Taylor in any way. She’s been through a lot’’

‘’Haven’t we all’’ he nodded.

‘’She really has’’ I said looking seriously at him.

‘’It's nice that you’re protective of her’’ he smiled.

‘’Kind of feel it’s my duty to’’ I said taking another sip from my wine.

‘’Awe, you’re such a good boyfriend’’ he teased ‘’but you can’t protect her all the time Ave, the big bad world continues to happen around us whether we like it or not’’ he shrugged ‘’besides, Taylor’s a big girl, I’m sure she can look after herself when you’re not there’’ he teased again.

‘’There’s so much you don’t know’’ I said quietly.

‘’Am I…am I missing something?’’ he said looking at me a little concerned now.

‘’Nah it’s all good. Just forget it’’

‘’Avery, I’m your best friend. If you can’t talk to me who can you talk to?’’ he said placing a comforting hand on my shoulder.

I looked at him, then down at my feet ‘’the uh, the girl you see today, the Taylor I first introduced you to…she wasn’t always like that’’ I said looking back at him now.

‘’Oh…?’’

‘’Yeah she um…she doesn’t exactly travel in our circles’’

‘’I did wonder, as I’m certain I would have remembered a face like that’’ he grinned ‘’to which I now must ask, how exactly did you two meet?’’

I told Skipp everything.

By the end of it, his eyes looked just as heartbroken for her as mine did when learning of her past. And in a way, sharing it with him eased a little of the acidic anger still swirling my mind after hearing her heartbreaking story.

‘’If anything, she certainly cleans up well’’ he winked making me smile in typical Skipp fashion.

‘’Can’t argue that’’ I nodded.

‘’You always did have a good eye weeding a true diamond out from the rough. You successfully did it with Tazer, and now with your sweetheart Taylor’’ he smiled warmly ‘’and no one deserves their happy ending more than you ole boy. So from my heart to yours, I wish you both all the happiness and abundance you each deserve’’

‘’That means a lot coming from you Skipp, really it does’’ I said placing my wine down and giving him another long hug, as he truly had seen me at my very worse when Jessica destroyed my heart.

‘’I mean every word of it friend’’ he said placing his wine down and hugging me back also ‘’and I promise, just a small group of close friends to celebrate you both …but all the fabulous ones of course’’ he winked.

‘’I’m good with that’’ I chuckled, and picked up my wine again taking another sip ‘’although, we should probably make it a double event’’ I told him.

‘’Oh god, I swear if you’re marrying her already I will kill you’’ he teased.

‘’We’re not quite there yet’’ I laughed ‘’but no what I meant was a coming out party for you ‘ole boy’ as I heard through the grapevine that you’re apparently now ga-‘’

‘’Don’t even say it’’ he scowled putting his hand in my face, and I erupted in fits of laughter at how easy it was to get him pissed off at times.

‘’I mean seriously, how does one even come to such a preposterous assumption’’ he snorted placing one hand on his hip with irritation.

‘’It’s unfathomable’’ I smirked looking over his posture.

‘’Oh hush up you’’ he smirked back ‘’and I’ll have you know back in England my ways are nothing out of the ordinary’’ and we both began laughing like best friends always do.

He wasn’t a bad guy by any means, and I naturally felt bad now for hating on him a little the way I did the night of the party. I couldn’t help it though, my unnecessary jealousy of the bold way he’d flirted with Taylor that night in ways I never could on account of our working relationship, naturally rubbed me up the wrong way a little. Then again, it kind of worked in my favor in the end, and I couldn’t be happier when learning she too had feelings for me like mine had developed for her.
