‘’You look happy, all well in the work office?’’ I smiled across at him.

‘’Yes, you could say that, I got a few hands-on things out the way’’ he continued grinning, and headed straight over to the bar and poured himself a half-shot glass of dark whiskey, which he downed in one go with a sexy tilt back of his head ‘’so, are we ready to watch the movie? What did you pick out? Wait, hold that thought’’ he said, comfortably kicking his shoes off on his way to open the door when it knocked ‘’…excellent, just set it all over there in the kitchen’’ he told the delivery guy from Red Lobster, who brought in container after container of delicious smelling food my already full stomach that day was now rumbling for.

‘’I swear, I haven’t eaten this much in a day ever’’ I laughed, wasting no time going over and grabbing a container of crabsticks to nibble ‘’I’m grateful though. This one day alone has made up for sooo many nights I spent hungry on the streets’’ I chuckled again ‘’oh Hudson I’m…I’m sorry, uh, we can talk about something else if you’d like’’ I said quickly, observing all of a sudden his sad face looking across the room at me from the door after seeing the delivery guy out.

‘’No it's okay, I’m the one who's sorry’’ he said walking over to me with a kind smile ‘’I guess we both have some adjusting to do. For me, it’s a case of wishing I knew you sooner, so I could have been helping you out of your situation long before this’’ he sighed.

‘’You really are the kindest most sweetest man I’ve ever known. And it goes without saying how eternally grateful to you Hudson that I am. This situation is alien to both of us, and I don’t at all want you to feel bad if I let something slip that makes you uncomfortable. I’ve seen and been through a lot in my young life, and is part of the reason why I’m not ready as of just yet to share the dark side of what I’ve gone through. I promise you with time though I will, and by then, we’ll hopefully both be at a stage where we can open up with each other and neither of us is discomforted’’

‘’I’d like that Taylor, I really would’’ he said looking at me softly.

‘’Me too. But right now, all that matters to me is proving my gratitude to you for the amazing opportunity you’ve given me’’ I said, happily busying myself taking out two plates for us to use, and dishing up equal amounts of the food onto it while Hudson watched.

‘’You don’t have to prove anything Taylor’’ he said lightly placing his hand on my upper arm to look at him ‘’just be the best you you can be, that alone will make me happy’’ he smiled warmly.

‘’I promise I will’’ I assured him confidently ‘’because none of this would even be possible without you taking a chance on me. Which is why I promise you Hudson with all my heart not to let you down. You have my word on that’’ I smiled up at him.

‘’And you have mine Taylor’’ he smiled back ‘’I’m just happy that for once in my busy life I was in the right place at the right time. Meeting you has been nothing less than exhilarating so far, and while I’m a man of few words when it comes to expressing in front of the eyes of others what personally makes me happy, I want you to know Taylor that being out with you today, was genuinely one of the happiest days I’ve had in a long while’’

Awww welp…I wanted to kiss him!! The fling-my-arms-around-his-shoulders-and-smother-every-inch-of-his-handsome-face, type kiss him! And great. Here come all my feelings for him rising back to the surface again…I thought with a small sigh, knowing there was no way around indulging what my heart felt for him. That unfortunately was a forbidden desire I could never act upon, and out of respect for what we have, I never would.

It was important right now more than ever, especially in our early days of getting to know one another, that I remain polite, humble, and professional around him. In turn, gaining the solid trust and respect it takes to foundation a good working relationship.

With that in mind, I with a warm smile comfortingly patted him on the arm and said ‘’thank you Hudson, that goes both ways. And now if I may…’’ I continued with a playful grin ‘’I’d like you to take a seat please, put your feet up, and kick back and relax while I bring over our yummy food’’ and with a sweet nod, Hudson made his way over to the couch and picked up the remote.

‘’Hey, how’d you feel about watching the latest Tarantino flick? It’s new to Netflix and sounds pretty good’’ he called out, cozying himself comfortably on the couch while reading the movie's guide.

It was for only a split second, but everything around me suddenly went blissfully quiet, in a peaceful tranquil moment of finally feeling I was somewhere wanted, and somewhere I belonged. The feeling warmed me head to toe, in a way both my mind and body had desperately been yearning for.

‘’Tarantino huh? Sure why not, I’ve actually heard quite a bit about him. Never watched any of his movies though, but would love to start tonight’’ I grinned joining Hudson on the couch now, after neatly setting our food and plates down with cutlery to match.

The movie was phenomenal! Not at all what I expected, yet everything I didn’t realize I loved. I enjoyed it so much in fact, that I twice without thinking grabbed a hold of Hudson’s thigh in a rushed moment of excitement over a booming scene taking place, before embarrassingly pulling my hand back when he jumped in startlement. And we were still laughing about it long after the movie was over, with Hudson and me now in the kitchen together stacking away our dirty dishes and cutlery into his fancy dishwasher.

‘’I’ve um, I’ve got a bit of a confession to make…’’ I said, nervously biting my lip and turning to him.

‘’Oh…?’’ he said turning to me with a quizzical raised brow.

‘’Yeah um, well...last night…uh…last night wasn’t exactly the first time I’ve seen you…’’

‘’Come again?’’ he said placing the last plate into the dishwasher and looking at me with a curious grin…

‘’Well…the location where I usually station myself each day near the bus terminal remains just that, until around 10:00 or 11 pm –depending on whether I’d managed to make enough to secure a night at the shelter. After that, I typically vacate my spot taking a quick shortcut past Madison Square where all the pretty buildings are that I liked to look at, while on my way to my usual nightly spot under the bridge, where I’d then set my sleeping bag up and rest for the night. And well…it appears you too have a nightly routine that suits you, as every night I’d see you parked by the meter machine while sitting in your car for a while checking your phone. I think it was the soft jazzy blues coming from your car that first made me notice you, and night after night I grew used to seeing you there. You just looked so relaxed and organized in your peaceful setting, and in a way, I think seeing you kinda settled me also’’ I admitted to him.

‘’Well then, aren’t you full of surprises’’ smiled Hudson, and with a warm squeeze of his hand on my arm politely left it at that, but the smile on his face continued to pleasantly linger.

We ended our evening back on the couch with a couple mugs of hot coco, and a slice each of Vanilla Bean cheesecake which I’d also ordered from Red Lobster’s menu. It was enjoyed with a melodic relaxation of the smooth jazz I was used to hearing from him, playing softly in the background. And with it, the continuation of pleasant conversation as Hudson lightly briefed me on a few of the tasks he wanted me to complete that week. It was nothing too heavy, all of which I used my new cell phone to document all what I needed to do in. Things like purchasing my new boss a yearly planner along with a black leather diary for the following year, which I was handed extra cash funding for me to purchase the required items, with the reminder that tax receipts would be needed for business purchase claims.

Other duties included the nice and simple task of taking Hudson’s shirts to the dry cleaners to be pressed, checking at reception for any mail, and finally making dinner reservations for four, for Hudson and a few clients mid-week at a nearby Asian restaurant which was in preference of one of his clients.

After being briefed, I learned last minute that I would be accompanying Hudson to his place of work with him tomorrow, which both excited and scared me a little at the same time.

Overall though I was rather looking forward to it, I had no reason not to. I was both mentally and physically ready, and after today, stylishly ready too. I was going to make Hudson as proud as could be while doing my job to the best of my ability. I would make sure to remain alert at all times and observe everything around me, thus further familiarising myself with my new boss and his lifestyle, where I’ll be able to perform my PA duties with a clearer understanding of how a typical day in his life worked.

It wasn’t that late yet into the evening, but with all the shopping and eating of fabulous foods I’d done, my relaxed body must have fallen asleep on me mid-conversation, as the last thing I remember was the cozied-up feeling of snuggling back under the covers I’d woke in, before my eyes fell extra heavy and I conked out fast asleep.

CHAPTER 17

With an exact déjà vu repeat of yesterday, I quietly tiptoed my way out from Hudson’s bed that morning and over to the door, expecting of course to see him fast asleep again on the couch. Instead…I found I almost passed out at the strapping six-foot and over sight of Mr. Midnight stood leaning in the kitchen against the countertop. His head was down and his back was partially turned so he couldn’t see me, as I stood lathered in drool watching him quietly read his morning newspaper in one hand, with a steaming cup of hot beverage in his other. I tried not to stare, really I did, but in the end gave in letting my eyes travel down to his rather defined six-pack muscled abs, then further down to the quite impressive bulge stretching his boxers above his thick muscled thighs, which all together almost burned my blushing eyes right out from its socket.
