I smiled as I pushed through the door to wait outside for Myles. Lizzy was the only one that could get away with calling me that nickname. She’d started using it when my hair first went white, and we thought that it would go back to normal. She said that I reminded her of Casper, The Friendly Ghost. I had to admit it was cute, and it stuck. Then calling someone your Boo became slang, and now it just looked like we were trying to be cool. Trying was the keyword.
R: I miss your face too. I’m going to try and come home for a visit, but I don’t know when yet. I’ll keep you posted.
L: Okay, give me the deets on the hotness, and don’t you dare tell me there isn’t any because I’ll know your ass is lying.
R: There may be one or two that are…cute.
L: Cute? Are they fucking puppy dogs?
I laughed and pictured Myles. He could definitely pass for an adorable puppy, just one that tended to piss on the floor. Blake wasn’t much better, and I had no clue why I suddenly pictured him licking windows. Nash, on the other hand…there was nothing even remotely cute about him. He was lethal, like a fighting dog beaten into aggression. He had a killer instinct. I couldn’t say for certain how I knew that, but maybe it was because the blank dead stare he got matched the look of the guy that had tried to get into the panic room. Even though he wore a black mask, I could see his eyes. I’d never forget that look. It was the same one Nash had given me a few hours ago.
R: No, they are not dogs. I’ll see if I can get a shot of Myles. He’s picking me up to take me shopping.
L: Cute, and he’ll go shopping with you? Damn, he’s a keeper.
R: Ha! He’s also a hardcore player.
L: Girl, all men are hardcore players until the right girl comes along.
R: I’m pretty sure there is a guy somewhere out there insulted by that comment.
L: Oh please, you know it’s true.
R: What I know is that I’m not looking to be anyone’s girl, and I’m certainly not looking to change a guy.
L: We could go round and round on this one.
R: It’s gonna have to wait cause Myles is pulling up.
L: P.I.C.T.U.R.E
R: LOL!
Myles jumped out of the car and ran around to the passenger side to open the door. Bowing low, he held his arm out. “Your chariot awaits.”
“You’re crazy,” I said. Looking around, he was drawing stares from other students that were outside.
“Aye, I am. Who was making ya smile like that a moment ago? Do I need to kill some guy?”
“It was just a friend.” I crossed my arms and smirked as he narrowed his eyes.
“That didn’t really answer the question. Was it a girl friend or a guy friend,” Myles asked as I slipped into the car. He leaned on the roof and looked in at me.
“What would it matter either way?” I snapped the belt into place.
“Well, if it’s a guy, I’d have to hunt him down and cut his dick off, but if it’s a girl, then maybe she can join us.” He laughed as my smile fell. “I’m joking…unless ya’re into that, then I’m totally down. Just say the word.”
“I’m thinking it would be best for you to stop talking and close the door before I get back out.”
“Good call.” Yes, he was hot, but he definitely had some cute in him. He had this warmth that I couldn’t quite put my finger on, and he oddly made me feel better when he wasn’t being an ass.
Myles got in the driver’s seat, and I grabbed his arm before he could start the car. “I thought the last time we were out was the last time for the Ferrari before winter?”
“There is still no snow, and I love me, Black Beauty.” Myles caressed the dash, his face staring at it like it was his girlfriend.
“You named your car after a children’s book about a horse?”
“She was more than just a horse. That’s an insult.”
