“Aye. As for Chantry…I’m not really sure. She keeps to herself. I know her family is Yakuza, but not much more than that. I keep an eye on what everyone does.”

“Don’t you get tired of all this? I mean, I just learned about my father’s involvement, and I wish I could go back in time and forget.”

I leaned against the desk, watching Myles closely. His finger softly tapped on the table, and his face was haunted.

“Aye, I do. The things I’ve done and will do are just part of me now. The death, blood, pain, fear of getting caught, and waring with my morals…ya either get used to it, or ya die. My father would shoot me between the eyes if he thought I wanted to run.”

My mouth fell open in shock. I’d met his father, and he gave me the creeps, but shooting his son for not wanting to be in the business was next-level crazy.

“We have a saying in our group for why we do what we do. For the Deserted, For the Power, For the Blood of the Fallen. We do this for those that wanted to leave, to take control, and for those that gave their lives needlessly. Like your mother…like mine,” he said, taking another sip of his coffee.

The reminder hurt, but the fact that half of what the guys did was to stop things like what happened to my mum helped on some level.

“Do you want to tell me what happened to your mum?”

“Aye, but not today. I do want to show you this.” Myles dug into his pocket and pulled out a folded piece of paper.

“What’s that?” I asked, as he held it out to me. He smiled, but didn’t say anything further. Taking it from his hands I gave him a skeptical look before focusing on what the paper said. “Oh my god, Myles! This is fabulous,” I said. Excitement bubbled in my chest and I couldn’t stop smiling at his mid-term grades. He had a, B or better in all his classes.

“The Dean says I can stay on my teams, and that’s because of all yer help.” Myles grabbed my hand and pulled me close enough that I was standing between his legs and staring down into those amber eyes that I couldn’t get enough of.

“I’m so happy for you, and you did all the hard work, not me.”

“Aye, maybe, but I can tell ya that I wouldn’t have put as much effort in or saw the value in doing so without ya.”

Cupping his face I kissed him and for the first time since I arrived, hope bloomed in my chest.

“So Snowflake, are ya ready to give me an answer bout being my girl?”

There were so many variables and forks in the road that I just couldn’t say yes as much as I was tempted to.

“When I get back from Christmas, I promise to give you an answer,” I said, kissing the top of his nose and then heading back to the suitcase.

“Fine, I guess I can suffer a few more weeks.”

It was unfair that someone as sexy as he was could pull off the perfect pout.

“I’m sure you’ll survive.”

Opening my dresser drawer, I grabbed a pair of underwear. I stared at it and held it up, pulling the material apart to show the entire crotch area cut out.

“What the hell?”

Tossing it on the dresser, I pulled out the next one, and they were the same. I threw it down and grabbed a third set, and they’d also been cut.

“Bitch,” I growled.

“What’s wrong?”

I spun around, fuming, and held up the black pair of lacey underwear.

“This is what’s wrong,” I said.

Stretching the crotch area, I showed off the hole. Myles’s hand froze with his coffee halfway to his mouth as he stared wide-eyed.

“This is unbelievable. I can’t believe she did this.”

“I’m sorry, what’s the problem,” he asked, and my brows knit together.
