“It’s just practice.”
“Fine, I’ll watch.”
I gave her another kiss and stepped away, knowing I’d stand in this spot all night.
“I’ll give ya the details tomorrow over breakfast. I’ll meet ya here with a feast.” I held up my finger before she could argue why that was not a good idea. “No arguments. I’ll be here at nine.”
Stopping at her bedroom door, I looked over my shoulder, and she was touching her lip where I’d just kissed her.
“I really am sorry for earlier and promise to make it up to ya. Sleep well, Snowflake, and if ya change yer mind and want company, ya know how to reach me.”
“Night, Myles.”
Closing the door took a shit ton of effort. I stood in the hallway, my body alive with excitement. Could I really be getting my chance? Fuck, if so, now I would be waiting for the other shoe to drop.
I glanced up at the ceiling. I had the worst luck. Fucking Murphy’s Law.
“Yer a bitch, Murphy. Just sayin, it would be nice if for just this once ya weren’t a cunt.”
DECEMBER 5 – MONDAY 4:45 PM
Ren
The shrill sound of a whistle told me I was heading in the right direction. I hadn’t been in this building yet and was astounded at its size. It was easy to get lost, and after taking a wrong turn, I stopped to memorize a map.
My phone dinged again, and I groaned. I loved Lizzy, but holy hell, when she wanted to know something, she was worse than a dog with a bone.
I pulled my phone out and looked at the twenty messages of her poking at me. Sighing, I opened the chat.
L: Hello
L: Don’t you dare ignore me, woman!
L: Answer the question
L: Poke
L: Poke
L: Poke
L: Keep ignoring me, and I’ll do this alllllll night long.
I believed her too. A few months before I left and everything with my mum, I saw her call the local township nonstop about unsafe conditions at the park until they had the police speak to her to get her to stop calling. It didn’t work, she became more persistent, saying she knew her rights and someone was going to get hurt, and they needed to add four lights to the trail. She insisted it was the perfect spot for someone to be mugged or worse and wouldn’t let up. A month later, there weren’t just four but ten new lights. Activists everywhere needed her on their team.
R: I got your question, and I’m only ignoring it because I don’t know what we are yet. I haven’t agreed to be his girlfriend, girl, arm candy, baby mama, queen or anything you want to add to that list.
L: LOL! That’s quite the list, but FINALLY, I thought my birthday would come faster than your text.
R: You’re a dramatic biotch, but I LV U
L: I know. So what is the holdup? Why haven’t you said yes to that gorgeous golden-eyed god?
R: Okay, Myles is never meeting you. His ego is already far too big for compliments like that.
L: LOL! Stop stalling. You can give me the deets, are you leaning towards dating him? Are you going to give him your V-card? Let’s get on with the show.
R: Lizzy…stop pushing. I’m not ready to jump into a relationship with someone or have sex.
