“I see,” she said.

“No, no, I don’t think ya do. Ya see this.” I pointed to the massive bulge in my jeans. “This is not letting me think straight. I want ya so fucking bad.”

Ren’s eyes followed my finger. I saw her swallow, and her eyes got a little bigger, but when she bit her lip, I had to step back. I needed the space to try and think straight.

“I don’t want ya to think I’m doing this for some stupid bet, and I’ve barely started to earn yer trust. I want to do this right for once because…fuck…because ya mean more to me than a one-night stand.”

The iciness melted from her eyes.

“So what you’re saying is you don’t want me to strip down and get in the shower right now?”

“What?” I gasped and took another step back. “Sweet Mary and Joseph, ya can’t be doin’ that to me.”

I glanced at the door, tempted to escape. I wanted to do right by Ren, but fuck even I had my limits.

Her laughter filled the room as she grabbed her hoodie off her desk chair and pulled it on.

“I was joking, and I love it when you’re all riled up. Your accent is sexy. Is this better?”

“Aye, a little.”

Ren used a hair elastic on her wrist, and with a quick twist, her hair was up in her usual messy fashion on top of her head. She still looked adorable, and it didn’t help a ton to cool myself off. I would need an ice bath. Forget the cold shower.

“Turn around.”

I didn’t bother asking why and spun around, shutting my eyes just in case I could suddenly see backward.

“Okay, you’re safe.”

I opened my eyes, and she giggled at me.

“You’re crazy,” she said, shaking her head and smiling.

She’d swapped out her kilt for a pair of blue, fluffy pants with little snowflakes all over them. Stepping up to her, I tucked a stray piece of her hair behind her ear.

“Yer so fuckin’ beautiful,” I said.

Ren cleared her throat and broke our stare.

“Oh shit, my books and laptop. I left everything there. I have to go get them.”

I stopped her before she could run off.

“Don’t worry. It’s taken care of. You’ll have yer stuff back tomorrow, but it’s all safe.”

“You sure?” She crossed her arms.

“Aye, I’m sure.” I stuffed my hands in my pockets. “Did ya want me to go now?”

Ren looked between the bed and the door so many times that she looked like she was watching a tennis match.

“I’m not sure. I want you to stay, but I’m not sure that’s a good idea.”

“Yer probably right.” Stepping in close, she looked up at me, and for the first time, her eyes were completely unguarded. With my hands cupping her face, I dropped my lips to hers for a quick kiss. “I asked ya before, and ya said no, but I’m gonna ask again. Will ya come and watch my lacrosse practice?”

“If I do, I’m not turning into some groupie, you know.”

I now had a new goal to turn her into a raving fan that would drop-kick a mascot. Okay, that was a bit extreme, but a great visual.
