“Irrelevant. They wrestle crocodiles for a living, I don’t.”

“I think they’re more into animal conservation now.”

She purses her lips. “Remind me again why we’re friends?”

“Because you love me.”

She blows out a puff of air. “Unfortunately, I do, and I miss you terribly. The moment my parents loosen the puppet strings, I’m on the first flight back to Sydney.”

“Hopefully you can make it for Connor’s birthday next weekend. I don’t want to go out with all the guys on my own.”

“Is that sexy hunk of man beef going to be there?”

“Probably. I think he’s going to ask Braydon’s dad if Blake can spend the night there.”

“Oh, so he’ll be going back to an empty apartment all alone at the end of the evening?”

“I swear to God if you meddle again, I’ll definitely smother you with a pillow this time.” The cunning smile she gives me has me narrowing my eyes. “I mean it, Cass.”

She looks over her shoulder and calls out, “Coming, Mother.”

“You lying cow. Your mum did not call out to you.”

“Got to go, biatch. Love you.”

“Cassie!”

“Mwah, mwah,” is the last thing I hear before she disconnects our video call.

I flop back onto the mattress and groan as I plot her murder in my head.

Chapter20

Mason

Istudy Connor across the table as his eyes keep flicking towards the dance floor, where his sister and her best friend are dancing up a storm. If I’m not mistaken, that’s longing I see in his eyes, and it’s not the first time tonight I’ve noticed. I’m guessing it’s the same way I’ve been looking at his sister for the past few weeks. Red and her voodoo pussy are under my skin, and no matter how hard I try, I can’t seem to get them out.

“How long have Jacinta and Cassandra been friends?” I ask.

“Since they were twelve, why?”

Interesting, the timeline fits. “Just curious.” I place my elbows on the table, leaning forward in my seat. “Tell me about this chick that broke your heart when you were nineteen?”

“What?” he answers as his gaze snaps back to mine. “How do you know about that?”

“You told me one night when you were drunk … and if my memory serves me correct, you even cried into your beer like a little girl.” I totally added that last part in.

“Fuck off I did. I was drunk, so naturally I wouldn’t have been making much sense … and I’ve never cried into my beer, arsehole.”

“You sure about that?”

“What’s your problem anyway?”

“Is it her?” I ask, flicking my chin towards the dance floor.

“My sister? Are you kidding me right now … that’s sick.”

“You and I both know I’m not talking about Jacinta, Connor. Her friend … Cassandra?”
