I bite my bottom lip as his warm breath skates over my cheek. This man makes me feel things I shouldn’t.
“Smile,” I say to Blake as we take a seat in the food court.
After clicking the photo of him holding up his milkshake, I attach it in a text message to Mason.
Red: Blake is safe and well. He loved his first day at school … I’m sure he’ll fill you in when you see him tonight. We stopped off to get a milkshake on our way home, I hope that’s okay with you.
Mason asked for my phone number when he dropped me off this morning, immediately citing it was because I was picking up his son, and for no other reason. I shouldn’t have felt disappointed by that knowledge, but I did.
We both know nothing more can come of us, even something casual would lead to catastrophic consequences for his friendship with Connor. Neither of us want that, but if we can manage to stay somewhat amicable with each other, I’ll get to keep Blake in my life.
Wolf: Thanks, Red. I’ll come get him around 5.30 if that’s okay. Earlier if I can manage it.
Red: Whenever is fine. I have no plans tonight.
Wolf: You mean your crazy friend isn’t going to take you out to find more ‘D’?
I can’t believe he just sent me that. Staying amicable with him isn’t going to be easy.
Red: Firstly, she’s not crazy … just a little eccentric. Secondly, she is back in Melbourne. Thirdly, that was a one-time thing. Fourthly, me and any future ‘D’ I may acquire is none of your business!
I have no plans for any future ‘D’, but he doesn’t need to know that.
Wolf: Firstly, the jury is still out on that one. Secondly, good, she’s a bad influence. Thirdly, I’m happy to hear that. Fourthly, there better not be any ‘D’ in your future, unless it’s mine.
My mouth is gaped open as I type my reply.
Red: Been there done that. And like I stated in point number four … it’s none of your business!!!
Wolf: I can easily make it my business.
Red: How?
Wolf: I can tell Connor what you’re up to.
Red: You wouldn’t dare.
Wolf: Try me, sweetheart!
Red: You suck!
Wolf: I believe you were the one that sucked, Red. My dick has very fond memories of sliding between those luscious lips of yours
.
Why do his words have me throbbing between my legs?
Red: On that note, goodbye!
Blake is in the lounge room watching a kid’s movie on Netflix, while I prep dinner. I want to have it ready so I can feed him before Mason gets here. I even let him choose what he wanted because I had to grab stuff from the store while we were out anyway. That’s where I was heading this morning when I ran into him and Mason. I was also supposed to bring Connor back a coffee, hence why he called while we were at the school. He was waiting for it.
Blake chose pizza—he pointed to the premade freezer ones, but I’m going to make them from scratch—and jellybeans for dessert. It was an odd request, but I bought him a packet, and told him he couldn’t have any until after dinner. He gave me a cute pout, but I managed to remain strong. I didn’t want to do anything that may get me in trouble with his dad. I’ve enjoyed spending the afternoon with him, and hopefully Mason will let me do it again sometimes.
“Jazzie,” Blake says, coming into the kitchen. “I’m hungry.”
“The dough is just about ready to roll, you can help me if you like.”
“Okay.”
