“I—” Although this was Cassie’s plan all along, deep down I had no intentions of going through with it, but for a split second I’m actually contemplating saying yes. “I can’t.”
“Why?”
“I’m here with my friend, I can’t abandon her.” I feel bad when I see the disappointment now marring his gorgeous face, but vetted or not, going home with a stranger goes against everything I believe in.
“Please.” I desperately want to say yes, which in itself should scare me, but thankfully, I remain strong.
“I’m sorry.”
“I’ll order an Uber for your friend, and personally escort her to it myself.”
His eyes are pleading as they stare down at me, and internally, I start to panic. When I hear the ding from my mobile from inside the tiny gold purse that is draped over my shoulder, I scramble for it. “That’s probably her now, wondering where I am.”
Wolf releases me, taking a step back to allow me to retrieve my phone, and I immediately feel the loss of his body against mine. When I look down at the screen, I see it is in fact a message from Cassandra, but my relief soon turns to despair.
Cassie: Okay, baby girl, we’re out. Me and the boys are going club hopping. Enjoy all the ‘D’ with that delicious hunk of a man. And don’t worry, he’s been completely vetted … I even have a pic of his driver’s licence on my phone. Oh, and he knows his way around a clitoris—unlike Phillippe—so don’t be afraid to ride that gorgeous face of his. And you’re welcome for all the ‘O’s. Love you and can’t wait to get all the deets in the morning. Mwah.
I know for a fact she’s done this on purpose. She has never deserted me like this before. Ugh, she’s so dead. Once I’ve smothered her with a pillow, I’m going to revive her just so I can do it all over again.
When I hear the deep rumble of a throat clearing, my eyes dart from the screen to Wolf, and the shit-eating grin on his face tells me he read the message too.
“Looks like it’s just you and me now, Red.”
I’m not sure how long our silent standoff in the corridor at the club lasted, but the moment he leant forward and ran is nose up the side of my face, whispering, “I need you, Red,” in my ear, before placing a soft, lingering kiss on my temple—which obviously sucked all the common sense from my brain—I was done for. The consequence being, I’m now seated on the back of Wolf’s Harley Davidson, wearing a helmet which is way too big for my tiny head, as we weave in and out of the city traffic, and surprisingly, I’m smiling like a lunatic.
This is my first time on a motorbike, and I’ve got to say, it’s thrilling. If Connor got wind of what I was doing right now, I won’t need to murder Cassie when I get home tonight, because I’m pretty sure he’d beat me to it.
I can’t believe I’m actually doing this. Wolf even gave me an out and offered to drop me home instead, but that only made me want to go through with this even more. Especially after he gave me another lingering kiss once we reached his bike … that one was filled with so much promise it had my toes curling in my heels. After wrapping me in his leather jacket that he got out of one of the saddlebags on the side of his bike and strapping his helmet to my head, he tilted my face up towards his and devoured my mouth just like he’d done in the club.
This man can kiss.
My body is still humming as my parted legs frame his. My chest is pressed firmly against his back, and my arms are wrapped tightly around his middle … I don’t know what it is about this man, but I’ve never felt more alive than I do in this moment.
When we come to a stop at the red light, one of Wolf’s arms drops from the handlebars, coming to rest on my bare leg. I bite my bottom lip to stifle my moan when his big, strong hand slowly moves up my outer thigh. My eyes flutter shut as I savour all these new feelings he’s evoking within me.
“You okay back there, Red?” he asks. The nicknames we have for each other are ridiculous, but since this will only be a one-time thing, it’s probably for the best.
“Uh huh.”
“You still want to come back to my place?”
“Yes.” My reply comes without hesitation as his grip on my leg tightens.
I love that he keeps giving me an out, but the truth is, I’m not ready for our time to end. Am I apprehensive about what’s going to happen when we arrive there? Hell yes, but I’m more inquisitive than scared. If his mouth alone can evoke these kinds of feelings, I’m eager to see where things go from here. I’ve only had a small taste of this man, but I’m already craving more.
The ride back to his place doesn’t take long, and I’m disappointed when it comes to an end. I absolutely loved being on the back of his bike. The way he effortlessly navigated his way through the city traffic, darting in and out of lanes with precision and ease.
Wolf slows as we drive down a beautiful tree-lined street before turning into a driveway and coming to a stop at a pair of large iron gates. After punching in a code, a beautiful Victorian mansion comes into view. I’m not sure what I was expecting—maybe a chic bachelor pad—but definitely not this. I have so many questions, but I’m figuring the less we know about each other, the better.
After pushing a fob on his keyring, the garage door opens and he manoeuvres us the short distance inside before shutting off the engine. When the door closes behind us, he flicks down the stand and steps off. For a brief moment we are bathed in darkness and my heart rate kicks up a notch.
I hear the clunk of his shoes against the concrete as he starts to move away from me. I’m still seated on the bike and my brain tells me to hop off and follow him, but I’m frozen in place. Reaching for the zipper of the heavy leather jacket I’m wearing, I drag it down. The noise is amplified in the dead silence. I remain completely still unsure of what to do next, but when light suddenly floods the space, I find myself squinting my eyes.
My head frantically darts around the room until I notice Wolf standing by the door with his back to me. Is it wrong that my focus immediately gravitates to his nice, round arse in those jeans?
He slowly turns around, so I quickly raise my gaze towards his face. Our eyes lock for a brief moment before his big brown orbs proceed to caress my body, starting at my head and working their way down. He pauses midway, and when his hand flies up to grasp the back of his neck before he tilts his head back and groans loudly, I look down. That’s when I see my dress has risen up, showcasing my white lace underwear, so I scramble to pull it down.
“Don’t,” he says as he starts to stalk towards me, quickly closing the distance between us.
