She glared at him. “What are you doing here?”
“Groveling,” Mac replied.
Wow, okay.
Jeff meandered closer. “Hey, man, whatcha doing with my girl?”
Jacqueline wanted to laugh. One looked like a disgruntled boy, the other, like a man.
A sophisticated, captivating, powerful, and extremely confident man.
Without question, her attention was glued to Mac.
The youngster whispered something in his ear and Mac set him down. With a plastic truck in his hand, he toddled over to her.
“You can ride on a plane. It’s Uncle Prescott’s plane and it’s soooo much fun.” He held out his truck. “Do you want to see my truck?”
“This is super cool,” she said admiring his toy.
As Mac stalked his way over, a frisson of desire ripped through her. His male beauty halted her breath while his hypnotic eyes drilled into hers. Tall and hard-bodied, his bright blue dress shirt stretched against his sculpted chest and bulging biceps, while his black pants hugged his massive thighs.
Her insides came alive, the pull to be near him had her taking a step in his direction.
“We need to talk,” Jeff said.
“You need to go,” Jacqueline bit out. “You’re not getting the message, so I’m getting a restraining—”
“You don’t mean that,” Jeff whined.
“Get out!”
Jeff’s jaw went slack. “Whoa.”
“Jacqueline, please,” Mac said.
She flicked her gaze from one man to the other.
Mac had been her lover and she had nothing but good thoughts about him.Prescott, on the other hand, was reckless, selfish, and a rogue agent.
“I’ll give you ten minutes.” She stabbed the elevator button.
Jeff hurried over, but Mac was by her side, his large body dwarfing Jeff. The doors opened, Mac collected her bags, and waited for her to enter. As soon as she did, he joined her.
When Jeff started to get on, Mac stiff-armed him, sending him reeling backward.
“She told you no,” Mac ground out, his deep voice reverberating through her. “Get lost.”
“Who the hell are you, asswipe?”
“Her bodyguard.” Mac’s confidence radiated off him. “If you go near her again, you’ll have me to deal with, and you’ll regret it.”
Ohmygod.
She melted. His sheer presence, paired with his protective nature, made her feel safe. Perfect words from a fantastic lover… and a prick of a man. Her head was spinning. How could one man evoke so many conflicting emotions, all at the same time?
She tapped the button, the doors closed, and she gazed up at him. “Thank you.”
“Did that buy me any points?”
