“An Op was killed,” Hawk replied.
“Wrong place, wrong time,” Stryker added. “Happened last night, during an attempted carjacking at a gas station.”
“Who was it?” Prescott asked.
“Gloria Whelan,” Hawk replied.
“Former Special Agent with the Bureau,” Cooper said. “She’d been with us for a decade.”
The guys shouldn’t have been talking shop in the middle of a party, but he wasn’t about to lecture them. Instead he asked, “How’s everyone holding up?”
“It’s rough when we lose one of our own.” Jericho said. “But today’s all about Hawk and Addison, right?” He slapped Hawk on the back. “Who woulda figured this guy would have a Jack and Jill wedding shower?”
Hawk grinned. “I know, babe, but when Addison asked me, I—”
“Pussy-whipped,” Stryker murmured, and the guys laughed.
“Abso-fucking-lutely,” Hawk said puffing out his chest. “My woman’s got meexactlywhere she wants me, and I got no prob with that.”
Rebel joined the group and they brought him up to speed.
“I knew Gloria,” Rebel said. “Worked a coupla gigs with her. She was good.”
Hawk had been staring at Prescott.
“What?” Prescott asked.
Hawk broke into a grin. “You got laid.”
The guys started laughing and Prescott flicked his gaze to Rebel. “Did you tell them?”
“No, dummy, but you just did,” Rebel replied.
“Good for you,” Stryker said. “You work too much.”
“Leave the man alone,” Cooper said. “But I gotta say… you needed that, Prescott. You look less pissed than usual.”
The guys cracked up again while Prescott bit back a smile. “You guys are idiots.”
“We’re definitely that,” Jericho said.
Determined to get them off his sex life, Prescott held up the bottle of Hennessy. “Let’s toast the groom.”
“Hell, yeah,” Hawk replied.
Jericho raised his arm, and a dutiful server hurried over. “Yes, Mr. Jericho.”
“I’m gonna need six cognac glasses.”
“Be right back with those.” The server scurried toward the kitchen.
“Where’re your women?” Prescott asked.
Jericho pointed outside, where several women were huddled in a tight circle.
The server returned, poured their drinks, then left.
All six men raised their glasses.
