Addison smiled. “You’re crushing on him, aren’t you?”

“Totally not,” Jacqueline protested.

Addison leaned forward. “I get it. He’s sick handsome, super-hot body, and very smart. Hawk’s recruited him for some of our missions. The man’s a freakin’ beast.”

Jacqueline could keep her feelings to herself… or she could share them with one of her closest friends in the world.

Tell her.

“I’ve got itsobad for him,” Jacqueline admitted.

Addison smiled. “Does he know?”

Jacqueline leaned forward. “He’s Mac, my kink partner at Asylum.”

Addison’s mouth dropped open. “You knew him at the wedding shower?”

“Oh, yeah, and there’s more. Do you remember the Winchester cult case?”

“Of course. That’s the reason you got transferred.”

“More like exiled.”

Addison reached across the table and squeezed her hand. “But you’re back now.”

Jacqueline nodded. “And I’m so happy to be here. Anyway, Prescott was working the case too. When everything went to hell, we had averyheated conversation.”

“But you were playing together at the club?”

“I never met him during the standoff. I only talked to him on the phone.” Jacqueline leaned back. “It was more like I screamed at him and hung up.”

“Ouch,” Addison said. “Prescott never talked about that, but he wasn’t the same after.”

“It was intense. Anyway, I can’t stand him—well, I couldn’t, then our worlds collided.”

“That’s crazy,” Addison said. “Are you guys working together okay?”

“We are now, but sometimes I get a little… um… distracted.”

Addison laughed. “You two make absolute sense to me, which is why I put you together in the wedding. Have you met his nephew?”

Jacqueline smiled. “He’s adorable.”

“I love his long hair. He’s a very sweet little boy. How’s he doing?”

“He’s become very attached to Prescott, and Prescott to him.”

The server returned with their appetizer, topped off Jacqueline’s iced tea, and left.

They dug in.

“So good,” Addison said.

The conversation changed to Addison’s wedding. Jacqueline was beyond happy that Addison had found her forever person. Addison lit up whenever she mentioned Hawk.

“Speak of the devil,” Jacqueline said as Hawk approached the table.

He shot Jacqueline a smile before turning his full attention on Addison. “I couldn’t help but notice you sitting back here,” he said. “I was curious what you look like, so I thought I’d stop by.”
