“Passed away when he was a baby.”

“Okay, so it’s just been him and his mom, right?”

“Uncle Prescott,” Ethan said.

Prescott peered down. “Hold on, Liv. Yeah, buddy.”

“I have to poopy.”

“You want to try pooping in the toilet?”

“No, fank you.”

“Once you finish, we’ll change your pull-on.”

Ethan walked away to do his business.

“Sorry about that,” Prescott said.

“Potty training, huh? You got thrown into the deep end. I admire you so much for what you’re doing. You’ve taken on a huge responsibility. I know you must feel overwhelmed, especially with the Ops going into hiding. Jericho and I are at an undisclosed location, but we’re a call away.”

“I appreciate that.”

“Call me for anything,” she said. “Oh, if you can find a picture book on death, that’ll help.”

He ended the call as Ethan was finishing with his pooping. Since he didn’t have a changing table, he laid Ethan on the towel, sat on the floor, and started to change him.

Ethan stared up at him.

Talk to him.“Ethan, I love that we get to spend so much time together.”

“Can we get a football?”

“Absolutely, but we’re gonna swing by your house and pack up your things.”

“This is a biiiiiig house.”

Prescott smiled at him as he pulled him to his feet. “And I live here all alone. It’s gonna be a lot of fun having you live here with me. I won’t be so lonely.”

“Okay, let’s go get a football.”

Prescott grabbed two empty suitcases, checked the tote bag, added more diapers, filled the sippy cup, and guided Ethan toward the door leading into the garage. Once everything was loaded, and Ethan was secured in his seat, Prescott got behind the wheel.

“Okay, Ethan, let’s go pack you up.”

As he was heading toward his sister’s apartment, he made a call.

“Hey, brother,” Rebel answered.

“Thanks for the texts and calls,” Prescott said. “Sorry I haven’t called you back.”

“No worries,” Rebel replied. “I wanted you to know I’m here for whatever you need.”

“I’m gonna take you up on that.”

“Name it.”

“Can you meet me at my sister’s apartment and help me pack up my nephew?”
