Hawk flew down the stairs, the banging of his dress shoes against the wooden steps had Maul whipping his head toward the sound.

In that split-second, Prescott aimed the Glock, and opened fire.

BANG! BANG! BANG!

Maul dropped, blood gushing from the back of his head, his neck, and his back. Hawk kicked Maul’s gun away and pointed his at Maul’s head.

Prescott bolted down the stairs and pulled Jacqueline into his arms. “Talk to me. You okay?”

Though shaking, she murmured, “Ohmygod, that was intense.”

They clung to each other while the heaviness of the situation took hold, the rush of adrenaline pounding through him. A long moment passed before she broke away.

“Check him,” Prescott said.

Hawk felt his carotid. After several long seconds, he stood, “It’s done, brother.”

Addison rushed over and wrapped Jacqueline in her arms.

Dakota and Sin stepped forward, and Dakota extended his hand. “You saved all of us.”

Prescott shook his hand while relief washed over him.

“I wasn’t armed,” Dakota said.

“Neither was I,” Sin added.

Sin’s wife, Evangeline, covered Maul with a black tablecloth.

“Prescott, you know what this means?” Dakota asked.

Prescott shook his head.

“You’re joining BLACK OPS,” Dakota replied.

“You’re outta excuses, brother,” Sin said. “Out of excuses. I’d want you on my team every single time.”

Hawk squeezed Prescott’s shoulder. “It’s time. You’ve punished yourself long enough.”

“I agree,” Z said joining them.

Prescott peered down at the woman by his side.

“They’re right,” Jack said. “It’s a perfect fit.”

Prescott extended his hand toward Dakota, who pulled him in for a hug.

“Welcome to BLACK OPS, Armstrong,” Dakota said.

“Ohgod, the security guards,” Addison said.

Hawk and Addison hurried out of the barn.

“What’s going on?” Prescott’s dad’s booming voice pierced the night. “We heard fireworks.”

Prescott’s mom, dad, and Ethan stood in the doorway.

Prescott and Jack hurried over.
