He wrapped her in his arms and kissed her. One kiss that got heated pretty fast, but she slowed him down. “I’m definitely putting the brakes on a make-out scene thirty minutes after meeting your parents.”

He chuffed out a laugh. “Fair enough, but you owe me one.”

He resumed his spot at the helm, but instead of standing, he sat. “Get over here, woman.” He pushed on the throttle and the boat picked up speed. “We’re gonna continue down the river, then drop anchor and have lunch.”

As she glanced at the other boats nearby, she couldn’t help but wonder if the person in the creepy clown costume was watching their every move.

THE FAMILY OUTING

Prescott

Prescott loved boating, and he loved sharing it with Jack. Everything was better with her.

After lunch, where Ethan ate his entire plate of healthy food, he was inhaling Nana’s homemade chocolate chip cookies.

As Prescott finished his third, he smiled at Ethan. “Nana’s cookies are the best, aren’t they?”

“The best cookies ever!” Ethan exclaimed. “I could eat them all!”

“Well, I made extra, so you can take them home with you,” Nana said.

Ethan broke off a small piece and snuck it to Loki. Prescott caught Jacqueline’s eye. “You okay with that?”

“Oh, sure,” Jack replied. “We had dogs growing up, and I did that all the time, except not with cookies. I did it with broccoli.”

“And they ate it?” Prescott asked.

“All, but one,” she replied. “He couldn’t stand it either.”

“Ah, so you see what’s happening under the table?” his mom asked.

Jack laughed. “He must really love Loki to share sugar.”

Ethan giggled.

“How did you meet Jacqueline?” his mom asked.

“She was the agent in charge during the Winchester cult standoff.”

“Are you still in Winchester?” his dad asked.

“I was transferred to San Francisco, but I’m back here working a case.”

“Are you two working together?” his mom pressed.

“You know I don’t work for the Bureau anymore,” Prescott replied.

His mom held his gaze for a beat before addressing Ethan.

“Ethan, can Nana clean you up so you don’t get chocolate all over the boat and we never get invited back?”

Her playful tone had Ethan smiling. “Okay, Nana. You have good cookies.”

“I put a lot of love into them. Could you taste it?”

“I can’t know. What does love taste like?”
