“Sounds great,” Prescott replied.
“Ethan you want to try it?” she asked.
He ran over to Loki who was staring out the family room French doors. “Hi, Loki. Do you want to play?” He petted him while Loki’s tail swished back and forth.
Prescott filled Ethan’s cup with milk and poured two coffees. “Ethan, come on over.”
After Ethan got into his booster chair, he took a spoonful of the warm cereal. Prescott bit back a smile as Ethan’s face morphed into a grimace.
“Yucky.”
Jacqueline had placed a small amount of brown sugar into a little bowl. “Let’s add sugar.”
He flicked his gaze to her. “Really?”
She spooned a little, then said, “Try this.”
He opened his mouth and she fed him.
Ethan’s eyes lit up. “Yummy!”
She sprinkled a little over his cereal. “Now, try it.”
He scooped in a bite and swallowed. “I’ll eat alittlebecause Jack was sooooo nice and gave me sugar.”
“Thank you, Ethan,” she said. “Healthy cereal with a little sugar.”
When she slid her gaze to Prescott, he mouthed, “Thank you.”
She patted his back.
“I told Ethan that you and Loki are staying with us,” Prescott began.
“Can I help train Loki?” Ethan asked her.
“Absolutely,” she replied. “I’d love that. We can start after school.”
“I don’t want to go to school. I want to teach Loki.”
“Today’s Friday, bud,” Prescott said. “One more day of school, then we’ll have the entire weekend together. I thought it would be fun to see Nana and Papa, maybe even take a ride on my boat.”
That got his nephew’s full attention. “You have a boat?”
“I do.” He pulled up a picture on his phone, and showed it to him.
“It’s the biggest boat in the world!”
Prescott chuckled. “I want to take you and Jack for a ride.”
“Loki too?” Ethan asked.
“Loki too.”
Ethan’s excitement propelled him to eat his oatmeal, then climb down. “Okay, let’s go on the boat.”
“That’s tomorrow,” Prescott explained. “Today is Friday and we’ve gotta finish the week strong. That means school for you and work for us.”
“I thought it would be fun to try out your new stroller after work,” Jack added. “And Loki and I will come with you.”
