Snuggled against him, she caressed his heated chest. For the moment, she was sated, but she was far from finished with him.

She loved the tender way he stroked her back. Gentle, light strokes that tickled and delighted her. They’d done some kinky things together, but they’d never once snuggled. Tonight was different in so many ways.

“I’m having the hardest time hating you,” she whispered.

He tipped her chin toward him, dropped a tender kiss on her lips, but he said nothing.

“I should probably get outta here,” she whispered. “I don’t want Ethan to get confused or too attached to Loki.”

He threw his massive thigh over her. “Stay with me.”

She melted from his words, the possessive way he behaved. “What about Ethan?”

“He’s afraid I’m going to leave him,” Prescott said. “I think if he saw you here in the morning, he’d be so happy.”

“Especially with Loki.”

“He’s not even four. He has no memory of his dad and now his mom is gone. I can’t believe I’m admitting this to you, but I actually considered giving him up for adoption.”

She pushed up, offered a comforting smile. “I get it. You weren’t expecting to be responsible for a child. You’ve got a company, you’ve got your other life. I think you’re doing a great job.”

“Thank you. The realization hit me when I was talking to Z…that little boy is mine.” He shook his head. “I don’t think I’m qualified—”

“Ethan feels safe and he feels loved. Seriously, you shouldn’t be so hard on yourself.” She ran her fingers through his thick hair. “You’re so patient with him.”

“We need to have sex every day. You’re much sweeter after I’ve taken care of you.”

She laughed, then her smile fell away. “Can I talk to you about something?”

He reached up, tucked her hair behind her ear. “Go ‘head.”

“There’s this guy. I have the strangest feeling he’s been following me.”

Prescott pushed up on his elbows, his eyebrows jutting into his forehead. “What happened?”

“His name is Lou. I met him when I went to my sister’s house. He’s in some band and they’re between tours, so he’s staying with her. First, I ran into him at Asylum a couple of nights ago.”

“I’m sorry about that, Jack.”

“It’s fine. Anyway, I was waiting in the bar and some guy started hitting on me, and this Lou guy stepped in. I was handling it, but he stood up for me. Then, yesterday, I stopped at the grocery store—the one near your house—to grab Loki’s food, and he pulled up in line behind me.”

“Where does your sister live?”

“Reston. He said he was heading to a band member’s house for practice.” She ran her fingers over his shoulder, then down his chest. She loved touching him, loved feeling the heat of his body on her fingers.

“I’ll run a check on him. What’s his last name?”

She shrugged. “I’ll get it from my sister.”

He leaned up, kissed her. “Let’s make this simple. Move in here so I can make sure you’re safe. You can sleep in the first-floor master suite or pick any bedroom up here, including mine, but I don’t want to push you. Up until thirty minutes ago, you hated my guts.”

“I’ve softened to a strong dislike,” she teased.

Pausing, they stared into each other’s eyes before he dropped a soft kiss on her mouth.

“I’m concerned Z’s building isn’t secure,” he continued. “My brother sounds nothing like Philip Skye, but the guard wouldn’t know that. Anyone could gain access to that building. If you won’t move in here, I’ll have Nicky install one of his security systems in the condo.” Then, he collected her hand in his, kissed each one of her fingers. “Move in, Jack. It would be easier for us to work together, plus you’d be safe here by yourself.”

Gazing into his eyes was the best medicine for her troubled soul.
