“I looked for video from when Gloria was gunned down, but couldn’t find anything.”
“I’ll see what I can find.”
“I also read through ALPHA employee files to see if anyone had filed a complaint against any of them, but I came up empty there too.”
“What about a former employee who’s got a grudge?” he asked.
Jacqueline made a note.
“Do you need police reports or autopsy results?”
“I already pulled them,” she replied.
They grew silent as they worked side by side. At first, she was having a hard time focusing. The energy rolling off him was both powerful and distracting.
She wanted to touch him from the moment she entered his home. Run her hand down his arm and appreciate his striated triceps or comb her fingers through his windblown hair. She imagined turning, their eyes would meet, and they’d come together in a tender kiss.
She found herself watching him as he navigated his way around ALPHA’s secure site in search of the documents she needed.
As if he felt her gaze, he turned. “You need me?”
Ohgod, yes. So badly.
One sexy wink before he shot her a smile. “Daddy loves to take care of his baby.”
She burst out laughing. “I cannot believe you brought that up.”
“It was crazy and sexy—”
“And kinda weird,” she replied.
“Probably because we didn’t know what the hell we were doing.”
“That was during my experimental phase.”
“That was just last year,” he pushed back.

“Is this appropriate business conversation?” she asked as she tried tamping down on her growing desire.

She tried to stay focused, but the pull was too strong. She looked over and her pulse kicked up speed. The intensity in his eyes sent a rush of warmth to her cheeks.
He ran the back of his finger down her cheek. “I love when I make you blush.”
