Despite how badly she wanted him again, she pulled off, the separation making her heart ache. “We should take off.”

Disappointment flashed his eyes before he pushed out of bed. In silence, they cleaned up and dressed.

Had they taken their relationship to the next level or killed the friendship they had?

HAWK’S INSTALL

The following morning, Addison drove to the shopping center near her house and jumped in the waiting Uber. She’d hidden her long dark hair under an auburn wig and worn large, black sunglasses that concealed half her face. After a moment of small talk, the driver went silent and Addison stared out the window.

Last night, after their roleplaying, Hawk had pulled on his clothes and waited in the office while she changed out of her nurse’s costume. It was a seamless transition that could have been awkward, but wasn’t. She had no regrets… and no expectations they’d do it again.

In the parking lot, he’d pulled her into his arms, dropped a soft kiss on her lips, then waited while she got in her car and drove away.

No words spoken. No words needed.

Once at home, she had trouble sleeping. Not because she was afraid the vandals would come back, but because every time she’d drift off, she’d relive Hawk’s strong hands caressing her body, his ravenous kisses stealing her breath, and his talented, talented mouth bringing her endless pleasure. But it was the look in his eyes that had stolen her heart.

The driver headed over Memorial Bridge and into DC, along with an army of fellow commuters. It was impossible to know if she was being followed, but she’d always been cautious when it came to seeing Melinda.

Melinda, once called Habibi, was Addison’s most reliable asset when she lived overseas. In exchange for her valiant efforts in locating Haqazzii, Habibi was offered a new identity and a new life in America. The day after DEVGRU gunned down the terrorist at his compound, the CIA team was on a plane back to the US.

A scared and excited “Melinda” was with them, carrying nothing more than an overnight bag and a passport with her new identity.

Addison had invited Melinda to live with her. At first, Melinda was afraid to leave the house. But slowly, over time, she ventured out, got a job, worked hard, and saved like crazy.

Three years later, Melinda owned her own coffee shop located in the heart of the GW campus. She loved being around college students and had taken a few classes herself. From time to time, Addison stopped by to check on her. Today, however, her visit was strictly business.

The driver dropped her a block from Melinda’s coffee shop. The sidewalk was crowded, the street jammed with traffic. On foot, Addison was making better time than the moving cars next to her.

Her phone rang with a call from her boss.

“Good morning,” she answered.

“Don’t come in to ALPHA,” Cooper said.

“I was planning on working from home,” she replied.

“Work at the black site.”

“I can do that,” she replied.

“Hawk said you two are going to target practice later today.”

“Right,” she replied, grateful Cooper had brought it up. She’d forgotten all about it.

“After you finish at the range, head into The Village and practice your hand-to-hand combat, along with your sniper skills.”

“We just finished an entire week of drills at retreat week from hell,” she pushed back.

“Do it,” he said, but she heard the smile in his voice. “And don’t go easy on Hawk. He can take it.”

On a chuckle, she hung up.

I’m definitely up for some hand-to-hand with Hawk.

She arrived at the coffeeshop, went inside, kept her sunglasses on. After glancing around, she spotted Melinda working the register. Addison waited in line. When it was her turn, she placed her iced coffee order.
