“What happens if one of us wants to do it again?”

She chuckled. “If we did anything… it would be costumed role playing. That kinda doesn’t count.”

“What the hell does that mean?”

“It’s not romance. We’re not making love or anything. It’s sex in a scene where we play different characters, have some fun, and go our separate ways.”

“And here I thoughtIwas emotionally unavailable.”

“Welcome to Addison’s fucked-up world where sex is a physical release, and people are kept at arm’s length so she doesn’t get hurt.”

He grew silent while he let those words sink in. In that regard, they were more alike than he realized.

When he finished rubbing her back, he asked, “You want your glutes massaged?”

She glanced back at him. “God, yes.”

Addison needed to change the subject. Being with Hawk in this way made her feel extremely vulnerable. Not because she was naked, but because she was herself. And he was running his large, strong, and very sexy hands over every inch of her body.

“Feels great,” she murmured.

It was arousing as hell, yet comforting and intimate at the same time. Letting down her emotional guard wasn’t something she allowed. But she adored Hawk. As a friend, she loved him. He was one of her go-to people. And at work, he was her number-one choice on a mission. Always.

The pampering was phenomenal. She couldn’t remember the last time she’d gotten a massage.

“You know, I’m gonna be wanting a massage every week now,” she said as he moved on to her thighs.

He leaned down, kissed her bare shoulder. “Then, I’ll do it.”

She melted from his words, his actions. Every damn thing about this amazing god of a man made her wish she could halt time… for just a little while.

The past week had been unusually intense, but Hawk’s behavior was in a category all its own. She wasn’t sure how to process it, and she needed a clear head if she was going to try to get answers for Ronald’s widow.

She released a sigh. “I’m so sad about Ronald, but I’m also sad for his widow. I can’t believe he’s gone. His children lost their daddy.”

“I’ll help you find his killer,” he said.

“Thank you,” she replied. “Honestly, I don’t think I’ll ever find out who did it. It took me years to find that one terrorist and there were several of us doing it full time. Death is so difficult, you know?”

“Yeah, babe, I do.”

They fell into a comfortable silence while he worked her calves, then massaged her feet. “Okay, I’m all done.”

When she rolled over, she gazed up at the most handsome man she’d ever known. But it wasn’t his killer looks that made her heart pound hard, it was the selfless gesture of putting her first.

“Wow, thank you.” When she sat up, the sheet pooled at her waist, revealing her breasts.

Rather than gawk, he set her clothing on the table, then placed his greasy hands on the sides of her face, tipped it toward him, and kissed her. A kiss that didn’t last nearly long enough.

After putting on her bra and shirt, she got off the table, slid on her thong and pants. “Your turn.”

“That was to help you get centered. You gotta watch your six and you need to be at the top of your game. I’ll meet you at target practice tomorrow after work.”

“What about the club?”

“We’ve got employees who can handle things until we get here.”
