“Your new hire is waiting in the conference room,” replied the employee.
He and Cooper headed to the conference room. When they entered the man at the table looked up, slid his gaze from Cooper to Hawk. Surprise flashed in his eyes, then a smile split his face.
“No way.” Hawk’s cousin pushed out of his seat and extended his hand. “I’ll be damned.”
Hawk’s brain stuttered to a stop as he shook Tommy’s hand.
“I can’t believe this,” Tommy said. “Wow, I had no idea.”
“I’m just as surprised,” Hawk replied.
The men sat around the table.
“How’s your first day been so far?” Cooper asked Tommy.
“Great. I still can’t believe this organization exists, and I’m a part of it.” Then he regarded Hawk. “Does the family know you work for ALPHA?”
“Nobody, babe,” Hawk replied. “You can’t talk about thiswithanyone.”
Tommy nodded emphatically. “Gotcha.”
“Tommy has had a successful career in local law enforcement,” Cooper began. “After his last gig, he was ready for a change. We got word and here he is.”
“ALPHA Meat Packing.” Tommy chuckled. “My boss told me I had to go. We thought it was a joke.”
“No joke,” Cooper said.
“So, cuz, what do you do here?” Tommy asked.
“I’m an Operative and a pilot.”
“Ourbestpilot,” Cooper added. “There’s pretty much nothing he can’t fly.”
“If it’s got wings, I can get it airborne,” Hawk said.
“Every new employee goes through a ninety-day training period,” Cooper explained. “We know you’re seasoned, but it’s SOP.”
“Sure,” Tommy replied.
Cooper leaned back, crossed his ankle over his thigh. “We also assign a mentor. Based on your relationship with Hawk, he’s yours. Neither of you are obligated and either can request out if it’s not the right fit. Hawk will bring you on any missions he’s scheduled to do, unless I override that.”
“It’ll be an honor to work with you,” Tommy said to Hawk. “I’m looking forward to spending extra time with you. We’ve got a lot of catching up to do.”
Hawk’s thoughts jumped to Tommy with Addison. Did she blow him too? The thought of them together sent frustration coursing through him.
“Hawk,” Cooper said.
How many times did they hook up?
“Hawk,” Cooper repeated.
What kind of role play did they do? Dammit, stop!
“Yo, Nicky,” Tommy chimed in.
Hawk blinked several times. Both Cooper and Tommy were staring at him.
“Where’d you go, man?” Tommy asked.
