This time, she didn’t hide her surprise, her eyebrows jutting into her forehead. “What do you do when you come here?”

“Upgrades for the security and surveillance systems I installed for you. If my boys are here, I’m out there talking to them.”

“I’ll take you on a tour when we close.”

He nodded, once. “What are we doing now?”

“Signing up new members.”

“We’ll do it together,” he said, fully aware of how that sounded.

The air turned electric.

The desire to pull her close and kiss her again had him scraping his fingers down his whiskered face. Breaking eye contact, she turned and left the room.

After telling Liv and Jericho they’d be running the club together, they walked them out.

“I’ve been meaning to ask if you’d be the baby’s godfather,” Jericho said in the parking lot.

Hawk stilled. All eyes on him while they waited for him to say yes. He wanted to, but he couldn’t get the word out. Instead, his chest tightened, the ache so familiar and raw all these years later.

“You don’t have to do it,” Jericho said.

Hawk forced a smile. “Of course, I will. You know I never say no to my guys.”

Jericho pulled him in for a bro-hug. “That’s great.”

“I’m honored.”

“And the best part,” Liv added, “is that Addison is the baby’s godmother.”

When she shifted toward him, he couldn’t look away. This should have been another celebration, but the fire in her eyes had him convinced she was still fuming over their kiss.

After saying their goodbyes, Jericho and Liv left.

When he regarded Addison, she was waiting. “You know, you don’t have to do God stuff with the baby.”

“I don’t have an issue with doing God stuff,” he replied.

“Well, you looked like you didn’t want to do it. Don’t you like babies?”

He loved babies, loved kids. He threw his arm over her shoulder. “It’s all good. Let’s go sign up those members.”

Back in their office, he reprogrammed the security system he’d installed, giving himself access to everything. She collected a tablet and they left, shutting the door behind him.

After spending over an hour chatting with prospective members and signing up a few, Hawk needed a damn break. This was starting to feel like work. He worked his ass off at his companyandat ALPHA. Enough was enough.

The song pounding through the speakers ended, and a slow one started.

“Time to chill,” he said.

“Now?” she replied.

“Right now.” He threaded his fingers through hers and led her onto the dance floor, slipped his arms around her waist, pulled her close, and waited.

Same as the wedding, she placed her hands on his shoulders, as if she were going to push him away.

Not gonna cut it, not this time.
