“You wanna drive back tonight or tomorrow morning?” Hawk asked.
“Tomorrow,” Addison replied as she opened the hotel door for him.
He took it from her, gestured for her to enter.
“Why don’t you just walk through it?” She rested her ass against the door before pulling out her ponytail tie and raking her hand through her long, dark hair.
“Seriously?” he raised his eyebrows at her. “Are we gonna fight over this too?”
“Fight? We’re not fighting. I opened the door for you.” She fisted her hand on her hip. “You’re stubborn and won’t walk through it.”
Two Ops made their way toward them. “Hey, Addison, Hawk,” one of the men said. “How’d you do?”
“I freed the hostage,” Hawk replied, flicking his gaze to Addison. “My bad.”
She laughed, then elbowed him in the ribs. “How’d you guys do?”
“We didn’t get ours out in time today,” the second Operative replied. “He died.”
“Ouch,” Hawk said. “What happened?”
“We fucked up,” said the first as the men breezed inside.
Addison tipped her head toward the lobby. “Go, already. My ass is getting tired.”
He walked inside and Addison caught up with him. “Are you driving to the restaurant?”
“You need a ride?”
“Well, you drove us out here, so yeah.”
“Then, no, I’m not driving.” Hawk loved giving Addison a hard time. She’d furrow her brows or growl at him.
“Idiot,” she replied. “I’ll swing by your room in thirty.”
As she punched the elevator button, a new Operative hurried over. Her shirt and pants were covered in paint spatter. “Hey, Addison.”
“Hey, Karen, how’d you do?” Addison asked her.
The newbie pointed to the paint. “I got shot.”
Every new ALPHA hire was considered a trainee for the first ninety days. They were all assigned a mentor, and Addison was hers.
“You want me to—” Addison began.
“Hawk, I’m so glad I caught you,” the woman said, cutting Addison off. “I’d love to ask you a few questions about being a helo pilot.”
“Now?” Hawk’s stomach had been growling for the past twenty.
“Now would beawesome.” She smiled up at him.
The elevator doors slid open and Addison stepped inside.
“Sure,” he replied. “Addison, I’ll—”
The doors started to close and he shoved his foot inside.
“Just when I thought I was free and clear,” she muttered.
