Hawk paused while the group applauded.
“Any amount is appreciated,” Addison said. “Hawk and I donated fifty thousand to make sure the Kase family is taken care of this year.”
The group broke into hoots and hollers, but Hawk held up his hand. “Barry should never have died. This is the least we can do for his family.”
“Thanks for considering our request,” Addison said.
“There is one more thing,” Hawk said.
On those words, Cooper, Stryker, and Jericho pulled out their phones.
Hawk had waited a long time for this moment… and a long time to find his forever love.
After pulling a small box from his sport coat, he dropped to one knee. “I adore you, Addison.
“Oh, Nicholas,” she whispered.
“You are ‘it’ for me. I love working with you, love that we’re partners. Being with you is my favorite thing. Doesn’t matter what we’re doing. It’s always better when we’re together.” He opened the ring box, displaying the radiant diamond engagement band that sparkled in the glow of the fireplace. “Marry me.”
She beamed at him. “You know, I will, Nicholas Hawk. I love you to the depths of my soul.” Leaning down, she kissed him.
He stood and they shared a tender kiss, then he pulled her close and held her flush against him. This was it… and he was ready. Without a doubt, she was his forever. He felt complete… and at peace for the first time in a long, long time.
Holding up her hand, Addison said, “It’s official. I’m stuck with him.”
The group laughed as he and Addison sat back down.
“Thanks for recording that,” Hawk said to Stryker.
“I took a bunch of photos,” Emerson offered,” and I’m texting them over.” After doing that, she said, “Okay, let’s see the ring.”
Addison displayed her engagement band.
“It’s gorgeous,” Emerson said. “An eternity band.”
“Congratulations,” Stryker said. “This was a long time coming.”
As the servers delivered the dinner salads, and the chatter resumed, Stryker said, “Em and I will match your donation.”
“Thank you,” Addison said. “That’s so generous.”
“Thank you, both,” Hawk said. “We appreciate that.”
Between courses, Cooper and Danielle swung by. “Thanks for setting up the fund. Danielle and I will also pledge fifty grand.”
Hawk pushed out of his chair and pulled Cooper in for a bro-hug. “That means a lot.”
“Show me the good stuff,” Danielle said to Addison.
“Not here, babe,” Cooper replied, and they cracked up laughing.
As Danielle was admiring Addison’s ring, Jericho sauntered over.
“Put me and Livy down for fifty, too.”
Hawk pulled his close friend in for a hug. “Thank you, brother.”
“Try not to shoulder Barry’s loss,” Jericho said.
