Inside the first box was a pair of sterling silver drop heart earrings with diamond studs.
“You remembered,” she said as she gently pulled one out of the box, slid it into her ear. “These are from Nico’s.”
“Of course, I remembered,” Hawk replied.
Then, she pulled her hair away and modeled it for them. “How do I look?” she asked.
“Beautiful,” Hawk replied. “And you look great in those earrings, too.”
“Very pretty, dear,” said Z.
Next, she opened the second box and gasped. “You did not.” She turned the box around to display a pair of diamond earrings that matched her engagement band. “That’s a lot of diamonds.”
“If it’s too much of the same, Nico said we can swap them for whatever you’d like,” Hawk said.
She kissed him. “They’re stunning.” After pulling one out, she slipped it into her other pierced ear and modeled that one.
“Very fancy,” Z said.
“I didn’t want a traditional engagement ring,” Addison explained to him, “so I chose an eternity band. This is what the ring looks like.”
“It’s beautiful,” Z replied.
“Happy birthday, babe,” Hawk said.
“Thank you, my love.” Addison dropped a light kiss on Hawk’s lips.
“Have you set a date?” Z asked.
“Not yet,” she replied.
“I’d marry you in Bali,” Hawk replied.
“Absolutely not,” Z said. “Imustbe at the wedding.”
“I’ll have it here, just to get you out of that cave of an office you work in,” Hawk said, and Addison laughed.
“I’m thinking maybe the farmhouse,” Addison said. “Something small. Family and close friends.”
“I’m surprised you want to get married there,” Hawk replied.
“I loved Kerri and Jamal’s wedding. You were the one who thought it was too hot.”
Hawk chuffed out a laugh. “Itwastoo hot.”
“I have some fatherly advice, if you’re interested.”
“Absolutely,” Addison said.
“The saying ‘never go to sleep angry’ is bullshit,” Z said. “Go to sleep angry and have fantastic make-up sex.”
Hawk burst out laughing.
“Daddy!”
Her dad chuckled. “Be good to each other and always have each other’s backs. Never keep secrets, and choose to betogetherevery chance you get. Everything else can wait.” He raised his champagne glass. “If I’d picked anyone for you, Addison, it would have been Nicholas. You deserve the absolute best… and he’s that man.”
Z slid his gaze to Hawk. “I trust that you will do right by my daughter. She is the most precious person in my life… and I hope she becomes that to you.”
