Hawk waited in the shadows while Cooper approached the front door.
BAM! BAM! BAM!
“Tommy, it’s Cooper Grant. Open up.”
Hawk’s fingers curled into fists, the fury rushing to the surface.
No response.
Cooper tried the handle. Locked. He raised his weapon to shoot out the lock when the door opened.
“Oh, whoa. Cooper,” Tommy said.
Cooper pushed into the apartment, grabbed Tommy by his shirt, and shoved him face-first against the wall. “You’re under the arrest for the murder of Barry Kase and the attempted murder of Nicholas Hawk.”
Hawk moseyed in.
Cooper secured his wrists with a zip tie, then patted him down. When finished, he spun him around.
Tommy glared at Cooper, then his gaze jumped to Hawk. He gasped, his eyes grew large. “Oh, heyyyyyy, Nicky.”
Hawk got up in Tommy’s face. “You piece of shit. You’re gonna rot in prison.”
Hawk spotted his phone on the sofa, snatched it up, and turned it on.
“We’re bringing him out,” Cooper said to Addison and Danielle.
As they brought Tommy into the hall and up the stairs, curious neighbors peeked out their front doors. Outside, they led Tommy to Cooper’s vehicle as Addison and Danielle strode over.
When Tommy saw Addison, he said, “You deserve better than him. I would have worshipped you.”
“Shut the fuck up,” Addison growled.
Danielle opened the back door of the SUV. “Hold him so I can zip tie his ankles.”
As she knelt, a motorcycle whizzed over, stopped twenty feet away. The driver pulled a weapon—POP! POP! POP!—and sped away.
Tommy dropped. Cooper pulled him off Danielle and shoved him into the SUV. Addison aimed her weapon, but the bike was already flying down the street.
“Tommy’s hit,” Cooper said. “Team, talk to me.”
“I’m okay.” Hawk rushed over to Addison. “Are you hurt?”
“Not hit,” Addison replied.
“Not hit,” Danielle echoed.
“Coop?” Hawk asked.
“Negative,” Cooper replied.
“We’re going after that bike,” Hawk said.
“No,” Cooper said. “You could be ambushed.”
Tommy had been once twice in the head, once in the chest, but Hawk still checked his carotid. “No pulse. Looks like Tommy had some enemies of his own.”
“Anyone get the license plate?” Addison asked.
