Addison wanted to scream, she wanted to pound her fists on the table. She wanted to break down and sob. But her dad’s mantra kept her from losing her shit.
“What happens when we let emotion take over?”
“We become vulnerable.”
Stealing her spine, Addison said, “Someone must have followed me.” Her throat tightened, tears pricked her eyes. “Melinda helped me find Haqazzii and I got her killed.”
“We can’t jump to that conclusion,” Anita said. “But we need to ensure your safety going forward. We’ve contacted everyone from that mission. Some are still working for us. Others moved on to the public sector or retired. It’s a very unsettling time for us.”
“What do you mean, ensure my safety?”
“You’ll need security,” Sin said.
Was this a joke? She needed protection? She’d kill the mother fucker before he realized he’d even been made.
Anita rose. “Sin, you have this, yes?”
He nodded.
Ohgod, he’s going to tell me I have to move in with my dad. While she loved her father, there wasnoway she could live with him.
“Please be careful, Addison,” Henry said. “If this is related to Abdel Haqazzii, these deaths are three years in the making. We could be up against an entire terror cell.”
Anita and Henry left, shutting the door behind them.
She shifted toward Sin. “What’s your plan?”
“You’ve got camouflage paint on your jawline,” he said with a sliver of a smile.
“I think that’s the least of my problems.”
“We’ve got a hurdle to get you over, that’s all. I won’t to let anything happen to you.”
She hitched a brow. “I’m not scared.”
That made him smile. “I’d be surprised if you were, but we still need to take precautions.”
“Will I be living with my dad?”
“No, we can’t risk putting him in jeopardy.”
“Well, I’m not staying by myself at the black site. That place is fine during the day, when you and Dakota are there, but—”
“Not there.”
“I’m plumb out of guesses. She folded her arms. “Your turn.”
“An Operative will guard you.”
“Don’t you meanbabysitme?” she quipped.
“You need someone who’s going to have your back.”
“Is this up for negotiation?”
“No.”
“I want Hawk.”
