“What time does he strike?” Hawk asked.

“Between eleven and eleven thirty,” Cooper replied.

Cooper tapped on the keyboard. One of the screens displayed an aerial map of the beach. “You’ll land on the Pamplona.” Using a pointer, he flashed the laser light on the building, located in a sea of concrete structures that spanned the popular ocean avenue. “It’s fifteen stories high. Take the elevator to the first floor, cross the street, and walk the half block to the Harbor House Hotel.” Again, using the laser, Cooper directed their attention to the second hotel. “This hotel faces the music venue, which is right on the beach.”

“If he’s there, we’ll find him,” Hawk said.

“Once we land—” Cooper began.

“Wait,” Addison interrupted. “You’re coming with us?”

“I’m heading into the crowd,” Cooper explained. “I’m hoping to spot him on his balcony.”

Hawk shook his head. “That’s too dangerous.”

“I got this.” Cooper studied them. “We’ve all been drinking within the twelve-hour window.”

“I’m okay,” Addison said.

“I’m sober,” Hawk replied.

“The stakes are high,” Cooper pressed. “You up for this?”

Addison nodded. “Affirmative.”

“Absolutely,” Hawk added.

“If the shooter succeeds, this will be his fifth attack,” Cooper explained. “We’ve gotta stop himbeforehe opens fire on that crowd.”

“Understood,” Hawk said. “If I can hack into the hotel’s surveillance system, I’ll try to find him that way.”

Cooper handed them comms. They grew silent while they slipped them into their ears. Next, he opened the door to the supply closet and pulled out three Kevlar vests. “Hide these under your shirts.”

Addison glanced down at her clothes. “I gotta change.”

“We’ll stop at the hotel on the way to the chopper,” Hawk said as he grabbed the body armor.

“Who needs a weapon?” Cooper asked.

“I’ll use mine,” Addison said.

“I have my Glock, but I need a second.” Again, Hawk checked the time. Nine-forty.

Cooper pulled a Glock and shoulder holster for Hawk. After Addison collected the Kevlar vest, they bolted. First stop, the hotel.

In the parking lot, Hawk handed Addison his hotel keycard. “Grab my Glock, a black shirt, and my laptop.”

“You’ll need that sport coat in your closet,” she said.

Cooper pulled to a stop. “What’s going on?”

“I need to start the preflight check,” Hawk said. “Can you light up the chopper for me?”

“I got you,” Cooper replied.

“Key’s in the ignition,” Hawk said to Addison.

“I’ll meet you at the helipad,” she called out before jumping into Hawk’s car and taking off toward their lodging.
