The server, dressed as a princess, helped him keep the drinks flowing, but he kept his eye on the floor, so he’d catch Addison when she returned.

His cousin Tommy loomed into view, found a seat at the bar. He’d styled his hair away from his face, had on a white button down.

Hawk dropped a napkin down. “Hey, cuz, you’re here late.”

“Yeah, I took someone to dinner.”

“Nice,” Hawk replied.

“Why didn’t you bring her here?”

“Thought I’d swing by on my way home, check things out.” Tommy eyed the fill-in bartender. “Where’s the regular crew?”

“Not here.”

Tommy laughed. “Yeah, I see that.”

“Whatcha drinking?”

“Whatever’s on draft.”

Hawk filled the glass with beer, set down the cold drink.

“Hawk security is dope,” Tommy said. “I didn’t realize you’re in theentirebuilding.” He took a long swig. “You’re like Superman with everything you’ve got going on.”

“Granddad fell off the ladder,” Hawk said.

“Jeez, is he okay?” Tommy asked.

“He’s in the hospital.”

A woman squeezed in beside Tommy and smiled at Hawk. “Hi, Hawk, can I get a climax?”

Hawk retrieved the other bartender. “Can you make a climax?”

“Sure,” the fill-in bartender replied.

While she got busy making the cocktail, the woman asked Hawk how his night was going.

“Good, babe. You doin’ okay?”

She moistened her lower lip. “So good.”

Hawk left to wait on another customer. After the bartender had finished making the drink, she said, “You should serve it to her.”

Hawk scowled at her. “What difference does it make?”

“She ordered a climax fromyou. She wantsyouto deliver on it.” The princess bartender waggled her eyebrows, then moved down the bar to wait on a group of guys.

Hawk set the cocktail in front of the woman. “Can I steal you for a dance?” she asked.

“No can do, baby.”

“I’ll dance with you,” Tommy volunteered.

The customer glanced from Hawk to Tommy. “Okay.”

After shoving off the stool, Tommy winked at Hawk before following her onto the dance floor.
