Tommy waved him over.
Hawk squeezed in beside him at the bar. “Nice costume.”
“I don’t see you for months. Now, I see you all the time. Can I buy you a beer?”
“Later.” Hawk slapped his cousin on the back. “I gotta take care of something.”
Addison made her way over.
“I sent you an Invitation to Escape.” Tommy pointed to his costume. “We had so much fun—”
“Yeah, I declined,” Addison said, cutting him off. “Like I said, it’s not gonna happen for us.”
Tommy shifted toward Hawk. “No problem. I get it.”
From behind the bar, Liliana moseyed over. “What are you still doing here? I thought you were taking a break.”
“You’re leaving?” Tommy asked.
“They’re going upstairs,” Liliana replied.
“Damn,” Tommy muttered under his breath. “You’re not even wearing costumes.”
“No costumes needed,” Hawk replied before ushering Addison away.

PUTTING ADDISON FIRST
Hawk escorted Addison through the club and over to the metal door leading upstairs. She stood in front of the scanner, the light flashed yellow. Hawk stood next to her and the light turned green. As Hawk opened the door, a guy and a girl headed toward them.
Hawk blocked their passage. “Hey, guys, where you going?”
“Upstairs,” said the guy.
Rather than get into it with them, Hawk shut the door. “Go ahead.”
“Why’d you close the door, man?” asked the clubber.
“Stand in front of the scanner,” Hawk demanded.
“You stand in front of it. It turned green for you.”
“Are you a member?” Addison asked.
“I’m here, ain’t I?” asked the guy.
“We want to join,” said the girl. “We’re going upstairs to check it out.”
“Nice try,” Hawk said. “You can check out what the rooms look like on the app.”
“Have you been members for a while?” the woman asked.
“We’re the owners,” Addison replied.
“Dude, you gotta let us up there,” the guy said to Hawk.
“I can’t, brother. We’ll sign you up when we come back.”
