A shiver skirted through her. “DEVGRU took him outthreeyears ago. Wouldn’t a strike have happened back then?”

“After Haqazzii’s death, the terror cell scattered,” Henry explained. “It could have taken them years to regroup, or form a different cell under new leadership. We’re looking into all possible options.”

“And you think I might be in danger?” Addison confirmed.

“You’re the one who found Haqazzii’s compound hidden away in that town,” Henry reminded her. “You were adamant we’d find Haqazzii and his team living there, despite confirmation that the compound was vacant. So, yes. We think you should keep a low profile.”

“That’s a little extreme, don’t you think?”

“We didn’t want Ronald to go public with his story, but he was offered a lot of money for that book deal.”

“I wasn’t named in his book though,” Addison pushed back.

“No, you weren’t,” Henry agreed, “but Haqazzii was the most wanted terrorist in the world. If a new terror cell has formed, we’re concerned they’re going after everyone involved.”

“Sir, I’d like to reach out to Jenning’s wife. What does she know?”

“That he was fatally wounded in a car explosion.”

Knock-knock.

“Come in,” Henry said.

His assistant opened the door and stepped aside. “Ms. Robinson is here, sir.”

Associate Director Anita Robinson sat in the guest chair next to Addison and offered a warm smile. “Good to see you, Addison.”

“You, as well,” Addison replied.

“We can relocate to a conference room, Anita,” Henry said.

“This is fine.” Anita regarded Addison. “I’m sure Henry has advised you to lay low until we get some answers.”

“He has,” Addison replied.

Addison wasn’t going to push back, not with the Assistant Director, but she didn’t work there anymore. She was an ALPHA Operative, with an option to go BLACK OPS. Go into hiding? She wanted to laugh. Only a coward did that, and she was no coward.

If anything, she’d find the son of a bitch who did this to Ronald.Thatwould give her peace of mind.

Anita held her gaze. “But you won’t, will you?”

“I’m not going into hiding, unless told to do so by my current employer.”

“Understood,” Anita said.

“Will there be someone from the Agency tailing me?” Addison asked.

“I’m not at liberty to discuss that,” Anita replied. “We just want you safe.”

“Thank you, ma’am.” She flicked her gaze to Henry, then back to Anita. “I’m going to call Becky—Ronald’s wife—and offer my condolences.”

“Of course,” Anita said.

“What about my going to the funeral?” Addison asked.

“If you go, please let Henry know,” Anita answered. “I would consider bringing someone with you. Always good to have an extra pair of eyes and ears.” She offered a warm smile. “I heard your career is going well.”

Addison nodded. “I like what I’m doing.”
