“Go,” Addison said, before eyeing Prescott. “We’ll catch up later.”

Hawk slipped into his suit jacket. “Button me up.”

Addison stared into his bedroom eyes before fastening his jacket. Then, she straightened his tie. “See ya, boys.”

“Let’s get our baby sis married,” Hawk said to his brother.

* * *

After both men took off, Addison needed a second to get herself together. She hadn’t seen Tommy in months, hadn’t thought about him either. If she’d known he was Hawk’s cousin, she would never have hooked up with him.

But she didn’t know, so she had. More than once.

Months ago, she met him at a private cosplay party. They saw each other at another party not long after. The hookups were no big deal… until he asked her to meet him for coffee. Out of costume, as herself. She wasn’t interested, so she declined.

While she wasn’t trying to keep her identity a secret, she played in character and stayed in character, so she never told him her name.

As she made her way toward the rows of guest seating, Tommy pulled up beside her.

“It’s great to see you again,” he said. “Now, I’ve got a name to go with your beautiful face.”

“Hey, Tommy.” She didn’t care that they’d gotten together. What shedidcare about was whether he’d want to pick up where they left off.

Not interested then. Not interested now either.

“I’m sitting with family,” he said. “We’ve got room. Come and join us.”

“I’m good, thanks.”

He shrugged a shoulder. “You shouldn’t be alone at a wedding. I’ll hang with you.”

She was stuck with him.

They found an aisle seat on the bride’s side a few rows behind the family.

“How have you been?” he asked.

“Good.” She didn’t want to chat, but ignoring him wasn’t gonna fly. “You?”

“I was in Philly, for work, but I’m back.” He paused. “Not gonna lie, I thought about you while I was gone.”

She should have been flattered, but she wasn’t. Yes, he was good looking, but she wasn’t feeling the vibe. She’d turned down his invitation for coffee months ago and she wasn’t changing her mind.

“What’s your story with Nicky?” he asked. “You guys talking. Together?”

“I’m a…we’re close…” she trailed off.

Close what? Friends. More like, each other’s sloppy leftovers if no one else wants us.

“I get it,” Tommy replied. “Relationships are complicated. He’s a lucky guy.” He leaned close. “I was gonna make a few calls, see if I could find out anything about you. I really wanted to see you again.”

What the hell?

The processional music began. Everyone turned as the wedding party made their way down the aisle.

“That’s Lamar’s brother,” Tommy whispered as the first couple proceeded by. “That’s Lamar’s cousin and his wife,” he added after the second couple passed them.

Turning toward him, she offered a polite nod.
