“I love you. That won’t change. I know myself. I know my heart. As long as we’re together, I’m a happy man.”
Her loving smile made his heart soar.
“There’s just more thing,” he said.
“What’s that?”
“Marry me, Addison.”
Her mouth fell open. “What?”
* * *
Without question, Addison adored him. Flat-out loved Hawk with her entire being. But marry him?
“When I thought I was going to die in that freezer, I made myself a promise,” he said. “If I got out alive, I was going to put myself out there with you.”
“Okay,” she murmured.
“You’re my missing puzzle piece… and I’m yours. Baby, this is our happily ever after. All you gotta do is say yes.”
Saying yes terrified her, but…saying no? That would be the biggest mistake of her life. As she gazed into his eyes, an inner peace came over her, and her heart overflowed with love.
“Yes, I’ll marry you. I can’t imagine our lives with anyone but each other.”
Their kisses were tender, filled with passion and unwavering love. She melted at the way he peered into her eyes, how he caressed the back of her neck, the smile that spread across his beautiful face.
“I’m excited and terrified,” she whispered.
“We got this,” he replied. “One step at a time.”
“Whew, so we’re not running to the courthouse this afternoon?”
“Hell, no,” he replied. “But I am putting a rock on your finger.”
She shot him a smile. “That sounds fun.”
“There’s one more thing I want to run by you.”
“Please, no,” she murmured. “I’m not sure I can take any more.”
He laughed, then pointed to the property. “I want to buy out my family and own this outright with you.”
“Wow, well you’re definitely a man of action, but we don’t need to do all of this in a day.”
Hawk stood, extended his hands. “How ‘bout we swing by the hospital and visit our godson, then go check out some engagement rings?”
She placed her hands in his and he pulled her to her feet. “Love it,” she replied.
They crawled back inside, he shut the window.
“We’re engaged!” she exclaimed. “That’s crazy.”
“Soundsperfectto me.”
As they made their way downstairs, he said, “I asked your dad for his blessing.”
She stopped on the last step. Eye-to-eye, she draped her arms over his shoulders. “You planned to ask me?”
