Looking at her was much better than staring at the river. Water was water, but Addison was a one-of-a-kind work of art. Timeless beauty peered back at him.

“You can’t leave here without a disguise. And to keep the neighbors guessing, switch up the wigs.”

“Are they used to seeing you with different women? I mean—sure, no problem.”

“I don’t bring women here.”

“Ever?”

“No.”

Why not?”

“I didn’t want them to know where I live.”

With a nod, she forked in pancakes. “Love the blueberries.”

“Let’s get clear on schedules,” he said. “If you need to go to the black site, I’ll take you and stay. I can work remotely. If I need to go to my company, you’ll come with me. I’ll tell everyone you’re a consultant with Providence’s shell, Luck Marketing. You can work in my office.”

After a nod, she sipped the coffee. “When we go to the club, I’ll put on a costume and a wig. No one will question that.”

“Good.”

His cell phone rang, but he ignored it.

“Aren’t you going to get that?”

“No. You’re my priority.”

He loved the impact that had on her. Her expression softened, her pupils dilated.

“We’ll go to Stryker and Emerson’s wedding together,” he said, before taking a bite of egg.

“I need to swing by my house,” she explained. “I didn’t bring anything for the wedding.”

“It might be safer to buy something new,” he said.

“I’minthe wedding,” she said pointing to herself. “Hello? I’m a bridesmaid.”

He finished his bacon. “Right.”

“It’s my dad’s birthday this week and we always have dinner at Carole Jean’s.”

“I won’t have eyes on you if I’m waiting outside.” His phone binged with an incoming text.

She barked out a laugh. “Wait outside? You’re my friend. We’re partners. You’re having dinner with us. I’ll call Georgia and change the res to three.” She left the table, returning with her phone. “I need to make a couple of calls.” She dialed, put the call on speaker.

“Hello, dear, are you with Hawk?” her dad asked.

“Hi, Daddy. I am, and you’re on speaker.”

“Hey Z,” Hawk said. “How’s it hanging?”

Z laughed and Addison’s eyes grew large.

“It’s hanging lower than I’d like. You’ve got a very, very important job.”

“She’s not gonna leave my side.”
