So much for smooth sailing. “Yeah, babe. I’ll grill.”

“You sure?” Stryker asked. “You didn’t remember.”

“I got it. I’ll send out a text. Thanks for the call.”

“Don’t you mean, thanks for the reminder?” On a chuckle, Stryker hung up.

Hawk pulled up the text thread with Stryker, Cooper, Jericho, and Prescott. “Yo, boys, poker at my place. I’m grilling steaks. Who’s in?”

Within seconds, Prescott responded, “I got the beer.”

Cooper texted, “Corn for grilling.”

“Coleslaw and fries from The Road,” Jericho added.

Stryker sent a watermelon emoji and everyone laughed at his text.

Hawk shot off another text. “I’ll be home by six.”

Then, he realized Addison would have to work the club without him. Even though Liv hadn’t been there every night, he wouldn’t abandon her. Rather than text, he shut his office door and called her.

“Hey, what’s happening?” she answered.

“I forgot I’ve got the guys for poker tonight.”

“That sounds fun. Do you need me to jump out of a cake or something?”

He chuckled.

“Seriously,” she continued, “why are you telling me?”

“Who’s going to help you at the club?”

“We’ve got staff. You don’t have to be there every night.”

“I’ll swing by after. Whatcha doing?” he asked.

“I’m at the black site. Dakota’s got me doing a bunch of work on two new terror cells that are gaining traction. I’m hoping this research leads me to Ronald’s killer.”

“You gotta leave that to the pros.”

“Iamthe pros. All I’m doing is taking this assignment in a specific direction.”

“Addison.”

“Don’t Addison me,” she replied. “Cooper’s calling. I’ll see you later.” She hung up.

It was four o’clock. Time for his weekly sync-up with Mags, his GM. With his water bottle in hand, Hawk made his way down the hall toward the break room.

His phone rang. It was Cooper.

“Hey, babe,” Hawk answered.

“I gotta talk to you about Sunday’s mission,” Cooper said.

“I’m at work.”

“You don’t have to say anything,” Cooper continued. “Slash’s Dad died, so she’s headed home. I’ve got you, Stryker, Barry, and Tommy, but he’s in training, so we need a replacement for Slash. I asked Addison. She’s in.”
