“Ya got it, lass.”
I let his words register as I tried to regain control of my body.
“You know we aren’t just going to let you go, right?”
“I’m counting on it.”
“What?” I was so confused.
“I’m telling ya this so ya hopefully will kill the bitch after I get Kady. I’ll even help you. I just need me sister back. Ya can kill me after, just take care of Kady and I won’t care anymore.” These were words of a truly exhausted person, someone who had seen some things and experienced pain that I was all too familiar with.
Gran taught me to look for certain things when we screened for residents, and most of that knowledge went into our current screening process. The way Rory was acting ticked all the boxes of someone who had some serious trauma and was living in survival mode.
Which, as Gran always said, wasn’t truly living at all.
“Is she your only family?” The question was sincere.
He nodded.
Well, fuck. Now I for sure knew what I’d do. Unfortunately none of it involved killing the fae in front of me.
“So, you not only have been fucking shit up on my island, but youtestingthe wards has undoubtedly caused all the random shifting and the goddess only knows what else.” He had the decency to shrug at that. “And now you are asking for our help?”
He smirked, and it reminded me so much of Patrick’s it was hard not to feel a pain in my chest at the sight.
“I mean, if yawantto look at it that way, ya can, lass. I’m tryin’ to look at it as more of an equal opportunity to save an innocent, Kady, and also kill the bitch that wants yer mate. If ya want to look at it—”
“WARREN, YOU FECKIN’ GOBSHITE. IF YOU DON’T GIVE ME BACK MY MATE RIGHT FECKIN’ NOW, I SWEAR I’LL BE CUTTIN’ OFF YOUR TINY DICK AND MAKING YOU CHOKE ON IT IN LESS THAN FIVE MINUTES.”
“There he is.” The smile that spread across my face at Patrick’s voice was filled with lust even with the present circumstances. He was so sexy when he was threatening others for me.
“Yup. There he is. Help himnotkill me yet, will ya, lass? I promise I have a plan.” Rory’s personality had done a complete one-eighty, and where there was once an elusive grumpy fae with anger problems, there was now a cunning, mischievous-looking bastard that had plans. “I’ve been plannin’ to get me sister back for too long to allow Patrick to feck it up at the final hour.”
I considered and trusted he had our best interests at heart, despite my lack of magick and the whole kidnapping thing. “Come in here, Patrick,” I called to him.
“Cliona?!” Patrick bellowed my name, and I’m embarrassed to admit my thighs clenched at the claiming in his tone. He was so fierce and protective, it was something I hadn’t normally appreciated in someone, but with Patrick felt totally different. He ran into the cave and the sight of him in tight black clothing, similar to what Rory wore, had my mouth watering. The black fabric, probably made for stealth and other important warrior activities, was so tight you could see his individual muscles. It clung to him like a second skin, and I made note to find out who designed this and send them a thank-you letter. His hair was back in his usual man bun that always did things to me, and his blue eyes scanned the space until they landed on Rory. “Warren! If you do not give me my mate—”
“Don’t get ya panties in a twist, mate,” Rory interrupted him. Good lord, Rory was cocky as hell. “The lass is fine. And I’m hopin’ you disregarded my rules in tellin’ ya to bring no one else?”
“Of course he did, you piece of hot fucking garbage.” Lennox’s voice filled the space and her anger had never sounded more beautiful than in this moment. “He would have had to kill me to keep me away from castrating you myself and making a stew with your dick meat to feed you as your last meal before gutting you.”
Rory choked as he took in her words. She was wearing something similar to Patrick that looked just as sinful on her smaller, petite yet terrifyingly strong human body.
“Lenn?” My voice broke on her name. The last time I saw her, she was dead in the street.
And I’d just left her there.
“She’ll have to get in line,” another voice, significantly deeper and more masculine that Lennox’s, called from the cave entrance. I saw Dom’s blue and white dreadlocks before it hit me.
They were alive.
Lennox and Dom were both here.
I was too distracted with my friends walking in I somehow missed Patrick pin Warr-DAMNIT-Rory. RORY. Pin R-O-R-Y to the cave wall.
“Hey, Cliona?” Rory called.
“You do not speak her name again or I will rip your tongue from your mouth and present it tomo gráas a mating gift.” Patrick clenched his fist harder, and I swear my clit throbbed at the sight.
