“Orla.”
Orla. Orla. Why was that name so familiar?
“I’m sure yer mate told ya all about the cunt,” Warren answered even though I hadn’t voiced the question.
“Wait, Lady Orla? Patrick’s old… boss?”
“If ya can call her a boss. She’s a right cunt and I’m so feckin’ pissed to be here on her behalf.” This was a different Warren than the one I knew. He was speaking in a thick Scottish accent. And he was looking at me in the eyes, something he hadn’t done before. “I’m also sorry that I drugged ya when ya were runnin’ from the other three.”
“Warren, what’s going—”
“Call me Rory,” he said quickly, interrupting me.
“Rory?” My mind swirled at everything that was happening.
“My name isn’t Warren. It’s Rory.” He sat down next to me, as if I weren’t a threat that could end him with one flick of my wrist. I tried to summon my power and felt nothing.
My power.
“Ya won’t be able to access any magick right now, Cliona. I’d love nothin’ more than for ya to use it to get back at Orla when she gets here, but I saw with me own eyes last night that ya are too unpredictable with it. I knocked ya out with some powerful suppression shite Orla gave me.” My blood boiled at his words.
“How dare you—” I began but he quickly cut me off again.
“I told ya it’s nothin’ personal, lass.” He looked at me again, and I saw the truth in his eyes. He looked desperate and tired more than anything else. “She took me bloody sister and forced me here. Kady’s too innocent and sweet to be with that cunt. She’s already had her locked up for damn near a decade. I’d been searchin’ everywhere, and when I finally feckin’ found her with Lady Feckin’ Orla, she knew she could tell me to do whatever she wanted, and I’d feckin’ do it too.” He hung his head, shaking it back and forth in shame.
“I’m confused as hell War—I mean,Rory,” I over enunciated his true name. “But if you don’t give me access to my powers back, I’ll—”
“You’ll what, lass?” He laughed bitterly. “Orla doesn’t even want ya. She wants Patrick. You’re just the pretty bait to lure him here.”
“My Patrick?”
“Yes.”
“Why?”
“She’s obsessed with the poor bastard. Woke him up from the dead and everythin’. Some other coven found out and stole him from her. Then she found out he’d been sent here. I’m pretty sure that’s the only reason I found Kady after all these years of searchin’. It was the only thing she’d have over me to make me come here. I’ve been testing your wards on this island this entire time, but your shite is feckin’ good, Cliona. Really feckin’ good.”
“Bert helps with all that.” I admitted before snapping my mouth shut, realizing I was carrying on a normal freaking conversation with this man when I was being held captive. This dude kidnapped me, I couldn’t care less about his sister at this moment. Well, that was a lie. I wanted to help his sister, obviously. I knew what it’s like to lose family.
“Rory,” I said slowly. Fucking fake name, too. The drama was too much. “I don’t really get what’s happening one hundred percent. But I promise you, if you faked your information to gain residency, and if you allow Orla to come on tomyisland, you getting your sister back won’t mean shit because I will end you.”
He smiled, but it wasn’t happy, it was more sad than anything. Warre-FUCK!Rorylooked tired. He looked really fucking tired.
“I know. I just need Kady to get away from Orla. I expect ya to end me miserable existence. I couldn’t live without my sister anyway. She’s a pain in the arse, but she’smypain in the arse. And Orla’s not known for herdelicateattention on her captives.” Rory turned his eyes up to me and clenched his fists as he said the last part.
There were really two options here: trust Rory, save a girl, and kill Patrick’s horrid ex-boss that tried to get in his pants, OR kill Rory before he has a chance to open the portal to her, risk his sister’s life, and ultimately let Orla live even after she might have been the one to wake Patrick up from the dead and cause him all this pain to begin with.
I took a deep breath. I already knew my answer, but I wanted to recap.
“You came to my island to get Patrick?”
“Aye.”
“And you kidnapped me to lure Patrick up here?”
“Aye.”
“To get your sister back?”
