“I feel your power, Cliona. It pulses through your sinfully feckin’ perfect body in the same way the constant need to claim you thrums in my veins, keeping my dead heart pumping long enough to make you mine. I don’t care that we just met.”

I bit my bottom lip at all his declarations. “Whoareyou?”

“Your date.” His blue eyes gleamed like a predator, but I didn’t feel like his prey.

I felt like his entire world when he looked at me like he was claiming me for all to see.

I felt his love for me even if we just met.

I felt how much he cared about me and how much he wanted me.

I felt how he craved me in more ways than one.

“I missed this,” I muttered.

“Missed what?” His voice was gravelly and hoarse, as if watching me eat a chocolate strawberry and process his words was the sexiest fucking thing he could imagine.

“Feeling.”

He raised one of his bushy dark eyebrows in question, but I didn’t let myself overthink before I pushed my lips to his. The instant our skin connected, I felt that same sensation from the first time he touched me, an instant calmness settling deep into my soul, stifling the magick in me from being anything other than a background thought. I had felt that way since Patrick picked me up, and I wanted to know what powers he had to give him this kind of control over something I’ve been working on mastering for almost five years.

His tongue swept against the seam of my mouth in question, and I opened eagerly. He groaned as I dragged my tongue piercing across his open mouth, making me clench my legs even more. He pulled away after exploring my mouth for several moments. Jamie Lee Curtis was already walking home from school by the time we broke apart.

“You are skipping some steps in my rather impressive plan at wooing you,mo peata.”

“You want to woo me?” I looked up and saw that adorable fucking dimpled smirk of his but also a hint of vulnerability. Hell, this was only our third date. I’m sure I didn’t know much about him.

“I won’t be simply wooing you, witchling.” He dragged his index finger up and down the line of my jaw in a slow sensual caress that had me aching for more of his kisses and whatever else he wanted. “I’ll be making you realize that you’re mine, because as far as I’m concerned, we are fated. I knew it the moment you bumped into me running from the restaurant, and I knew it again the moment those wicked lips smiled at me, and again when I felt that wicked piercing on your tongue just now.

“But you don’t know the full Patrick yet. And, while I know you in my soul and recognize you asmine, even though Dr. Luna and Dom told me to leave that bit out, we need time apparently.” He rolled his eyes as if the notion of taking things slow was abhorrent to him. “This is why dating exists. Even if it is pointless because, either way…” He paused and moved his hand between us, pressing his palm against my heart. Close enough to my cleavage that I was sure he’d heard my heartbeat quicken at the contact. “You and I end up the same way.”

“And how is that?” I managed to ask despite feeling breathless at how consuming he was being tonight.

“You’ll see,mo peata.” He kissed the tip of my nose before pulling me back into his side, wrapping his arm around my shoulders so I had no choice but to lean into the crook of his arm that felt like it was made for me. “Now, watch this movie and stop distracting me.”

And even thoughHalloweenwas my favorite movie, I couldn’t pay attention to much else above the beating of my heart for the rest of the film.

Chapter 6

“Iknew she’d get a kick out of thatHalloweenprint I ordered,” Dom said.

It was true. I had a debt to the dragon now, more than I had to anyone else. He provided me an opportunity to wrap Cliona in my arms, and I wouldn’t forget it. And even though it was a scary film she’d seen too many times to count, she let me snuggle her even closer during the jump scares, another thing I was thankful to Dom for.

“I owe you one, brother.”

We jogged around Waxing Moon Park as a small warm-up for our Friday morning self-defense classes we hosted. A few months back, a resident asked for lessons in physical combat at a council meeting. Dr. Luna brought it up at an Alpha Group session with Dom, and I had jumped at the opportunity to help anyone who wanted to learn to fight back against an attacker. Although this island was supposedly warded from any and all threats, it wasn’t bad to know how to handle yourself against any who thought you ill will.

“How did the sign-ups look last night?” I asked Dom as we turned the last corner of the small trail in the woods before heading back to the center green patch where our equipment was already set for us.

Most of our equipment was at Hemlock Gym, where we held the conditioning classes on alternate weeks, so the only pieces we had with us today were some tape, gloves, foam swords and shields for some simple melee practice, and a few magickal first aid kits provided by the council.

Dom and I slowed to a leisurely walk for the rest of the way to plan for this morning. He had his dreadlocks pulled in a bun on the top of his head and wore the same gym shorts and t-shirt ensemble I had on. “Same suspects. Tonya, Elicia, Storey, and Lina. And, of course, your boy Tommy.”

Lina and Tommy were the only two that seemed to actually be interested in what Dom and I were offering. I had the strong suspicion that the human female, Tonya, and the other two that never left her side, who requested the teaching in the first place, really only wanted an excuse to be near Dom and me. Old Patrick wouldn’t have minded the attention. Hell, he might have taken them to bed, all at once or one at a time, even offered to share them with Dom if he was interested. But since waking up for Round Two of this life, I didn’t have that same drive to fuck anything that moved. I hadn’t had much attraction to anyone, which is how I knew Cliona was my mate immediately.

She woke my cock up from the dead, and for that I was even more in her debt.

Plus, I didn’t find any of the females that came to our class attractive, in body or personality. They seemed conniving and a little too eager to please. Dom had the personality of a pissed-off porcupine, so I knew he wasn’t attracted to them either. He only showed his non-bastard side in one-on-one situations or when he was with Gioia who looked up at him like he personally hung the moon and stars for her. But our clear dislike for the three females didn’t seem to deter them from coming out every Friday morning. I only hoped they paid attention to the practical pieces of defense and combat we taught them.
