Here we go…

“You gonna open that bay door for us?”

Phin’s voice again, obviously cueing Cruz and Rohan.

“Yeah,” the answer came. “Give me a sec.”

“Sure thing. I’ll get these ramps set. You got a hand truck inside, or should we use ours?”

“There’s one inside the door.”

A few seconds passed and then… “Blow it,” Phin whispered so softly Maddy almost missed it.

Boom!

Maddy lurched up, her spine going ramrod straight. Phin had warned her the flash bangs might startle her.

Boom!

A radio squawked. The guard’s?

“Ed?” The guard’s voice came through Maddy’s earbud. “What was that?”

Boom!

Wow. Rohan and Cruz were making the most of those flash bangs.

“Ed! What’s happening?”

More silence.

“What the hell’s going on?” Zeke asked.

Boom!

“I gotta check this out,” the guard said. “Get this unloaded. Leave it on the dock and we’ll bring it in.”

Hell no.

They needed that bay door open and this guy taking off before unlocking it was a big fat nada. Just their damned luck the guy would have his key in the lock, but hadn’t opened it before Phin’s Johnny-on-the-spot brothers started throwing flash bangs.

Beside him, Zeke angled back, scanning the area near the back entry door.

Boom!

Phin flinched. Even knowing it was coming, those flash bangs still rocked him. The guard right along with him. The guard took off, his utility belt—complete with handcuffs, weapon, and a bunch of keys—jangling as he ran toward a parked white SUV beside the building.

“There’s a door back here,” Zeke said. “My lock-picking tools are in the truck.”

Ah, big brother, the expert lock-picker. Phin was already in motion, climbing into the truck and bypassing the metal ramp they’d used to load the armoire.

“We gotta be fast,” he called to Zeke. “With all those flash bangs, someone probably already called the cops.”

Tires squealed from outside the truck. Probably the guard Phin just spoke to, roaring to the east end of the building where Cruz and Rohan were having a freaking field day.

Phin hit the button on his ear bud. “Heads up, boys. Guard coming your way.”

“Got it,” Cruz said. “What’s your status?”
