And I would have, too, if the image of Nessian on the wall hadn’t filled my mind, reminding me that he was still up there, waiting for relief. Reluctantly I pulled away, and Ellis’s arms fell to his sides.

“I am still going.” I demanded.

He glared at me.

I glared back.

His mouth opened, and I narrowed my eyes at him.

Ellis huffed. “We must pack, then,” he said shortly, sitting up slowly.

I blinked, taken aback by the sudden shift. “W-we?” I asked, confused.

He huffed at me. “You are determined to go. I am determined to keep you safe. Therefore, I will go with you.”

Twenty Six

Istared at him, shocked speechless. Hope and gratitude and love swelled in my breast, and I seized him in a huge embrace. Ellis went stiff at the rough contact, then relaxed. He wrapped his long arms around me, leaning into me. I lifted my head and kissed him with enthusiasm, wanting to show him just how thankful I was for his support, and for listening to me.

He made a grunt of surprise as my tongue slipped into his mouth, but his arms shifted around me. One went to grab my hip and squeeze, and the other held me in place by the neck. Gasping for air, we broke apart briefly. Ellis bent down and nibbled my neck, coaxing a moan from my throat.

“It would be a shame to leave before claiming you slept in the royal bed,” he intoned, his voice gravelly and full of heat.

“I’m not tired,” I stubbornly insisted, my hand grazing down his stomach until it met the hard lump in his trousers. I squeezed and a hissing sound left his lips.

“Naughty little thing,” he said under his breath.

I squealed as he picked me up, (no easy feat for a solid girl like me) took three strides across the room, then tossed me into the bed. Giggling as the silk sheets surrounded me, Ellis’s gaze was pure heat as he kicked off his boots and undid the belt on his breeches. He got down to the edge of the bed and crawled toward me.

The King of the Northern Realm on his hands and knees as he crawled towards me was the most arousing thing I’d ever seen.

And I loved every moment of it.

Now level with me, he grabbed my breeches at my hips and ripped them down my legs in one smooth motion. His hands ghosted up my right ankle and calf underneath the thicker fabric of the dress, fingertips caressing the skin as he continued his journey north. My head fell back on the soft pillows as he went higher up my thigh, then deliberately skirted the apex at my core. The second hand made the same journey on my left leg, and I was practically vibrating with need by the time both hands gripped my hips, pinning me down into the mattress.

“I like you in skirts. Most convenient.”

His face buried itself in the apex of my thighs. His hands snuck in between them my legs and gently pushed them apart, encouraging me to spread my legs for him. He didn’t need to tell me twice.

I buried my fingers in his hair, my nails scraping lightly against his scalp. I tried to tug him up toward me, but he resisted.

“What are you doing?” I pouted, wanting to kiss him again.

“Worshiping you like a queen deserves; not as a drunken mistake born of desperation and fear.”

My heart broke for him, for us. “Ellis, I—”

My mouth snapped shut as his nose dipped into my folds, gently stroking. My first instinct was to snap my thighs closed, but he had a firm grip on me and held me still.

“Naughty. Let me taste.”

That’s what I was afraid of. It couldn’t possibly taste… good. Could it? It was dark down there, and wet and—

I gasped as his tongue replaced his nose, slowly and carefully probing and licking. I was pulling his hair, but he didn’t seem to mind.

Ellis started a slow pattern of licking me all over, and my body relaxed into him. He hummed his approval straight into my core, and I moaned at the sensation. His arms coiled around my legs and thighs, cradling his head as he settled more comfortably between my legs. Was this normal between a man and a woman? Gregory had certainly never shown any interest in—

“Oh!”
