My hands hovered above the sink, pausing mid-motion. That was what we’d agreed on.Before. Before I’d called the whole thing off, then we’d semi-called it back on again. And before we’d started fucking.
If I went, we’d definitely have to keep it in our pants for the weekend, or Kit would be constantly doused in the scent of omega-nearly-in-heat, and that wasn’t fair on him. His instincts would be unbearable.
“Would she?”Coleman asked eventually.
“I’m courting her, and her heat is drawing closer. I’m hardly going anywhere without her.”
I spun around to stare at Kit, giving him my bestwhat-the-fucklook. There was no way of misinterpreting that—keeping an omega close while their heat approached was a solid declaration of intent. He was only making life more difficult for both of us when we had to part ways.
“Right. Well, plenty of room, like I said.”
“I’ll check with Margot and get back to you.”
They exchanged quick goodbyes while I continued to lecture Kit with the force of my stare, waiting for him to offer up some explanation of why he’d said that.
His phone buzzed. “Nico said that he and Violet will go if we’re going.” Kit finally looked up, startling slightly, when he caught the look on my face. “No? You don’t want to go anymore? I guess things have changed since we first discussed the idea—”
“Kit!” I sighed, exasperated.
“What?”
“You told Coleman I was close to my heat?”
He blinked at me. “You are close to your heat.”
“Well, yes, but youtoldhim.”
“Was I not supposed to?” Kit tilted his head to the side, reminding me of a curious puppy, cuteness and all.
I groaned, exasperated with both him and myself. “Call Nico. Put him on speakerphone.”
I was being extremely bossy, on reflection, which wasn’t something alphas always responded well to, but Kit didn’t seem to mind.
“Hi,”Nico said in a distracted voice, the clacking of a keyboard audible in the background.“Yes or no to Brighton?”
“We need you to settle something for us first, you’re on speaker phone,” Kit said, staring intently at me as he spoke.
The typing sounds stopped.
“Go on,”Nico replied, curious.
“I told Coleman that Margot was close to her heat, and I obviously wouldn’t be leaving her on her own—”
“You saidwhat?”Nico asked in a strangled voice.
“Thank you,” I muttered, throwing my hands up in exasperation.
“Kit, my friend, that is basically an official announcement that you’re taking Margot as a mate. That your courtship was successful, and she’s invited you into her nest. There’s no other way of reading that.”
I waited for Kit’s dawning look of horror, but it never came. Such was the downside of dealing with an alpha who knew nothing about omegas, I supposed. The magnitude of his actions was lost on him because he’d never bothered to learn the significance of them in the first place.
“Well, that’s what I said.” Kit shrugged, unbothered, uneducated, or both. “Are you guys going to come with?”
“If you’d like us there,”Nico replied cautiously.“More specifically, if Margot would like us there.”
“You’re not even pretending to hide the favouritism any more,” Kit joked. Maybe he’d been body-snatched at some point?
“Margot is absolutely our favourite. Margot? Do you want us to come to Brighton?”
