We’ll keep riding. We’ll keep living. We’ll keep enjoying our family and seeing if we get the opportunity to watch it grow.
Nothing will be idle with her. There is only the adventure of the new day.
I wouldn’t have thought that I’d be here, with the woman who owns every part of me writhing underneath me, when I noticed that black card on my desk, but I’m grateful as fuck for it. I don’t know who left it there or why, but it doesn’t matter now.
Nothing matters other than this woman and the love flowing through us.
We come together, her name on my lips and mine on hers. As our foreheads press together, our breaths mix and contentment washes over me.
I hold her against my chest after I roll over and bring her with me, enjoying the heat from her skin and how the weight of her tells me she’s right here with me. I glance at where her cut hangs next to mine and I find myself smiling. She’s mine. My old lady. Nothing is going to stand in our way.
EPILOGUE
ABOUT A MONTH LATER
McKENZIE
I’m wringing my hands together even though I know I’m being silly. I’ve met so many people since Porter has come into my life, but this feels like more. Maybe it’s because it’s the first time anyone is visiting from another chapter or maybe it’s because Prodigal is bringing his new wife and his old lady, Wrenley.
I’ve heard a lot about Wrenley from Porter and Rites. I think I’d hear about her from Penance and Monk, but they’re quiet men. At first, I wasn’t sure if they were quiet because they didn’t like me, but it didn’t take long to realize it’s just who they are.
I give Porter’s waist a squeeze as we pull into the gates of the clubhouse, hoping to give myself some reassurance and remind my man how much I love him. He reaches down and gives my thigh a squeeze before offering me a hand to help me off.
There isn’t much time left before all the bikes will be put away, but it hasn’t snowed yet.
Last week, Porter took me back out to our lookout spot to see the way the way fall has descended on the area, and it was one of the most beautiful sights I’ve ever seen. Experiencing it with my man only made it better.
Prodigal and Wrenley arrived earlier today, but I had to work. Porter insisted on picking me up before taking me back to our place to let me freshen up. Yes, I moved in with him about a week after he gave me my property cut and we confessed our love for each other. Why shouldn’t we live together? Our commitment runs deep, and I swear our pets were going to mutiny if they couldn’t spend all their time together.
They’re the cutest and strangest duo. Brutus is the biggest softie I’ve ever seen when he follows Gizmo around and whines at her when she climbs her giant cat tree Porter added to his house just for her. The big lug of a dog will lay at the base when he’s being ignored and wait, but he’s not patient about it, if all the chuffing and sighing is any indication.
It’s adorable as hell and I’m glad our animals get along. It has made melding our lives together much easier.
Porter laces our fingers together as we walk into the clubhouse. My eyes land on Cherry who glances my way before looking away quickly. There’s no more hate in her eyes, but sometimes I see a flash of resentment. I’m not worried about it because if I’ve noticed then I’m sure I’m not the only one.
I trust the club to dole out her punishment accordingly and move to the next step of kicking her out if they need to.
I will say that Cherry hasn’t approached Porter since the night I put her in her place. I think she took my warning to heart because I haven’t even seen her look at him. She’s more likely to turn around and leave the room if we’re in it than anything else. It’s a damn good thing she does because I will snatch her hair again in a heartbeat.
Standing at the bar is a man I’ve never seen before and a woman tucked into his side along with Rites, Spark, and a few other brothers. The woman, who must be Wrenley, looks up and locks eyes with me before a huge smile graces her face. I find myself smiling back even though we haven’t been introduced. I’m chocking it up to a case of like recognizing like.
Porter lets go of my hand only long enough to give Prodigal a man hug and kiss the top of Wrenley’s head. I watch the interaction with a happy heart and without an ounce of jealousy. The men of the Devil’s Saints might be hard in a lot of ways, they might be violent when they need to be, and I know they break and skirt the law from time to time, but they have hearts of gold, and they love fiercely. Once someone is family, they’re family for life and that’s what Wrenley is.
“Starlet,” Porter starts, “this here is Prodigal and his old lady Wrenley.” I smile at them both and take Prodigal’s offered hand.
“She’s also my wife,” Prodigal states with so much damn pride I almost giggle as he lets go of my hand. “It’s nice to see that this chapter is getting its shit together and growing the ranks of the old ladies.”
I chuckle and shake my head, “Just me at the moment, but you never know.”
My mind strays to Penance because something has been different with him lately. There’s been a determination about him, and he’s been spending more time away from the clubhouse. I’m sure we’ll find out what it’s all about soon enough.
Before I can offer my hand to Wrenley, she wraps her arms around me and gives me a hug. When she pulls back, she winks at me. “Us old ladies have to stick together.”
I laugh and nod eagerly. I’ve met some of the old timer’s old ladies, but they aren’t around enough. I’m looking forward to the brothers finding more good women. It will ground them and give them something to fight for.
Wrenley links her arm through mine and pulls me away from the bar and over to the couches. She waves her hand toward the men, “We’ll let them do their man thing.” She’s practically bouncing up and down where she’s sitting. “I want to hear all about how you met Bronco.”
“Deal, but I want to hear about you and Prodigal,” I tease her.
She nods eagerly and I find that I’m smiling so hard that my face hurts. As we put our heads together and tell our stories, I know I’ve made a connection for life. She’s a friend, but it’s deeper than that. She’s a sister and we’re bound together by the men of the Devil’s Saints Motorcycle Club.
Is there anything stronger than that?
